I'm looking for an HDTV for a workout room. I've been reading articles and posts from this forum, and it seems that only the Sony's display enough resolution to differentiate HD resolution from DVD resolution.

I've looked strongly at the 26" Samsung HD with built in tuner (read a sound and vision article that said you can't tell HD from DVD on this unit). The Panasonic's I've seen at Circuit City and Walmart look incredible. The Sony models look incredible as well. Picture quality is pinnacle to me, so I think I'm going to try for the Sony. I can get an open item KV30HS510 for $759, or a new KV-30HS420 for $950. Will the 510 and 420 have a comparable picture? I'd rather save the $200 for a tuner.

The best 30" Sony you'll find is the 30XS955 or perhaps last year's 30XBR910. The XS model includes a built-in HD tuner and CableCard slot. Expect to pay a few hundred more though for the tuner and super fine pitch tube.

I own the KV34HS510. I like it much better than the HS420. I believe it is a better built TV. I believe the HS420 is a dumbed down version of the HS510. The XS955 is the true replacement/upgrade for the HS510. And to get it for $200.00 less is a good deal. See if they will give you a deal as well on the ESP. They are negotiable. You might have to talk to the Store Manager for it though. Since it is an open item it might be a good idea to get a ESP.

Well I got the 510 this evening, and they also had an open item Samsung OTA tuner SIR-T151 for $89. The picture quality is incredible. Right now I have it hooked up to a JVC DVHS 30K paying last years super bowl, simply amazing picture. I opted not to get the ESP. Man this thing weighs a ton.

I'm using this TV in a workout room, I like HD so much that I figure I'd spend more time in the room if it a good HDTV. I'm glad I didn't settle for the 26" Samsung, which I was putting serious thought into.
