Hi guys! I don't know much about speakers, but we are installing built-in ones to our new house. What is the best brand of speakers? I'm not sure what kind of speakers we need, but there are holes in the wall for them. Also, there is a home theatre that needs a surround sound system. Any suggestions? There is no price range, just whatever speakers are the best.

Put 500 people in a room and see how many different votes

you will get. Go to www.bostonacoustics.com and click on

Shop Boston. Take a look at all the different speakers. For

the home theater section - look at the VS series speakers.

This will be a good set for less than $10,000.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm just trying to get an idea of what are generally the better brands for speakers. Maybe just a list of what are generally thought of as what's up there? Or if not, the most expensive brands? Thanks.

Are you actually interested in sound quality, or are you just trying to compensate for something?

I am interested in sound quality, but it has to be more than that. Levi's makes nice jeans right? However, just because I want nice jeans, doesn't mean that I don't want nice jeans from Prada that are also aesthetically pleasing. These speakers are going to be on display and must contribute to the resale value of the home.

Prada makes jeans?! That I didn't know!

I digress...

Most in-wall speakers get painted to match the room and become "invisible" to the listener, so I'm not sure what you hope to accomplish with them aesthetically. Do you want them to become invisible, as I described, or do you just want something that sticks out and "looks expensive"?

But I mean if you can recommend some speakers that will make my willy bigger, that would be lovely as well. (You MAY even consider them yourself, instead of making fun of 16 year old girls online...just saying.

The in-walls are fine if they're ugly. Especially since they are to be mounted inside a casing that will, yes, match the wall. However, the house is going to have more than just in-wall speakers. There are three rooms (one dedicated media room, one living space and one TV room) with non embedded speakers. Those will need to look nice (in addition to having good sound quality). They should all "look expensive" since they most likely will be...I'm not sure why speakers can't look nice and have good sound quality too...or do those speakers not exist? All I was saying is that just good sound quality isn't enough.

Do me a favor... Go to audiogon.com and browse their speaker SALES (not the classifieds). The ads there range from $300 to $500,000 per speaker, so youll see a variety of options.

When you're done, come back and tell us which speakers you believe look good. We can then let you know whether or not they sound good as well.

"good looks" are entirely subjective, so we need more to go on...

If you didn't notice, I already posted three links to some very respectable in-wall solutions... any one of which would sound great, and look good too. But, I'm not sure the other chicks at your country club have ever heard of those companies before...

And, for the record, I was just ribbin' ya... at first.

Good luck!

Well, I did look at the links. They weren't exactly what I was looking for but thanks none the less. Although, I'm a bit confused. If they're supposed to be "invisible", how can they be good looking too?

I was also jesting but I suppose some things are merely lost in translation.

As for the "chicks" at my country club, if they existed, they would have done some research on the internet, on their bedazzled iPhones or whatever and come to the conclusion that since I was just asking for help at first, there was no reason for you to be a jerk about it. Then they would cry and buy themselves loads of clothes to make up for the mean man who made them cry. And yes, Prada does make jeans, but mainly for men. Maybe you should invest in a pair? They're quite attractive.

I looked at audiogon.com, and honestly, none of them look so good. Probably because they are not professional pictures and they are not new speakers. I'm sure the actual speakers are wonderful. However, I'm really just looking for simple suggestions that fit three guidelines (in no particular order):

1) Must have an impressive reputation.

2) Must have good sound quality.

3) Must not look as if manufactured by Fisher Price (

 www.bowers-wilkins.com .

There's the easy answer. Many people think the 800 series is the most artistic looking design out there. You could say they are the Prada of speakers.
There are other more exotic designs (like Wilson's) out there but most would not relate to their "stacked box" design.

For in-walls, Triad is hard to beat for sound quality.
