hey there everyone, as u all remember i have the eD A2 300 which i like but i have a question, In the $600 price range, which out of these subwoofers is the best, i might consider upgrading the sub(also remember i live in an apartment) i mostly watch movies and play xbox360/ps3.. dont listen to music much other than Rockband and guitar hero :

eD A5 - 350 Subwoofer

EPIK KNIGHT / or the Valor

SVS PB12

If you know a sub that i missed to list please do

I am asking because i cant audition to any of them u know.. i could throw the MFW 15 in the list also but i seen many threads lately saying that that sub has a high failiure rate and i dont want to mess with that stuff, they also say that it hums and that u need to use a cheater plug or something to stop the huming etc..

Im all hears

SVS has many fans, as does Epik and eD, as far as output I don't think there is much competition -it will be between the eD and Epik.
I am an Epik owner (Castle), therefore an Epik supporter. I doubt you will find anyone on here that will be able to personally compare the three subs you are looking at. My vote goes for Epik, though. I think they provide a massive amount of SPL and accuracy for the price even if you do sacrifice some floor space, Hell, you can't win 'em all.
If you can stretch your budget, consider the a7s-450. It is currently sold for $860 shipped with smooth black finish and equalizer for free. It has been compared to svs pb13 ultra and duals of mfw-15, in SQ and output, so it should be roughly comparable to Epik Castle and a significant leap from a5-350.

Mine sounds awesome without the EQ but I'm sure if I had the EQ it'd be much better, probably with a flat response down to 15 hz or so.
Thx for the replies guys, im feeling tempted to go with ed again cuz of free shipping .

The a7 will be too much for my apartnent tho, i have a question, the ed a5 350, by what is it different than my a2 300? Only the power or it has tighter/better sounding bass?

The svs looks good too, between the a5 350 and the svs pb12, which one is in the lead? Svs charges like 57$ for shiping so its not too bad
The A5-350 also comes with the free upgraded LT/550 amp currently.

I have a question, in the same volume, would there be difference in sound quality between the a5 350 and the a2 300? I meanwhats differet in the a5 350 than the -

A2 300, ilike to crank the volume in my apartment but hey.. Its still an apartment

So i will probably listen to the a5 350 with the same volume im currently listening to my a2 300, will there be sound quality difference or all in all the a5 350 just has more power? Thats what i want to understand to decide if the upgrade will benefit me

The link below is the first (supposedly) professional test of an Ed subwoofer.

http://www.goodsound.com/equipment/e...gns_a2-300.htm

What is important in this test is the following:

"I tracked the variations in the bass response. In my room, there were bass bumps at 80 and 63Hz (plus 2 minus 3db, compared to 100Hz), while the bass response fell off gradually and smoothly below that down to 31.5 Hz. The levels at 25 Hz and 20 Hz wer noticeably lower, both to the meter and to my ears. It's my feeling that the A2-300 would offer more extension in a bigger room."

This doesn't represent particularly good performance.

Also, it makes no sense to suggest that the A2-300 would have more output or extension in a bigger room. It just doesn't work that way with ported subs.

Ed has made deliberate (business) decisions not to have its subs tested by a competent professional tester.

Still, based on the testing by Craig Chase of the A5-350 you would get substantially more output and extension at the low end.

Such differences may take time to become clearly audible, since most material doesn't go below 25 Hz.

Ok im trying to sell my ed a2 300 right now, hopefully i can do it.. So what are my choices , the a5 350 with the FREE upgraded 550watt amplifier and matte finish. I think the svs pb12 cant compete with that right?

All the epik subs are out of stock so im taking that out of my list. Im not sure what else is left, well theres also the mfw 15 but i dont want that one man , so many reports say that their amps fail and their sub hums and need some cheap fix to get rid of it

What else is my choice?

Im going with the a5 350 and not with a3 300 because that wouldnt justify an upgrade so im going for the clear 550watt upgrade, ill never in my life need more than that lol

That and the what seems to be fantastic customer service drove me to buy an SVS sub over them.

..and that thread pretty much sums up what I already know. Good stuff.
