Best turnkey systems

1617 Views 19 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  Gregor
I wanted others input for what are the best turnkey systems available? My needs are basic: need to store my music to replay via my a/v recv, wanted to store some home movies to play, wanted to display my digital photos. I have a time warner dvr, so not sure I need the pc to become a dvr. Hard disk storage is important, would want about 1TB min. Thinking I could just a dell to hook up to my Sharp 50inch LCD, but wanted something I can stick into a shelf horizontally. Any suggestions? Also want to stay with XP. Thanks pl

I don't know about THE best, but this is one of the 'best" out there. With about 1TB, it'll run you around $3,000.

http://www.creaturehtpc.com/ . These are the guys that built my HTPC back in 2004. It was solid as a rock out of the gate. Still is. Just tell 'em what you want and they'll build it.

So can I
But the original poster wanted to know about the best "turnkey" systems out there. I'll gladly build him one with the exact same specs as the s1digital one for $2,000, split the $1,000 50/50 with you, and still have enough money to build ANOTHER HTPC out of that $500...

Interesting... I'm not suggesting that $3K is a reasonable amount, but I thought Cablecard was OEM only.

I'm working on a few things, including launching a new business centered around HTPCs. As part of that, we are looking at getting OEM certification.

It's a shame they have to mar the nice face of a Silverstone LC16m that that gaudy blue logo tag.

Good luck with your business. To get OEM status you need to sell thousands of copies of Windows...

S1Digital has a retail store at 116 E. 7th St. If it's close, you might as well drop by and get a demo of the system before purchasing anything.

Not True. M$$ likes money as much as any other business. Do you REALLY think S1digital sells "thousands" of copies of windows every year?? M$ is willing to talk....to ANYBODY who will sell their software.

If you say so. Have you done any research into the business you're trying to start?
Just found this one today while browsing PC Magazine in the dentists office:

I've never heard of them, but I like the design of their HTPCs. Their top-of-the line model is a little out of the OP's price range though.

In my personal experience with Moneual, their customer service is very poor, especially after my unit arrived DOA.

They forced me to pay freight twice. As of this writing my original order was placed 22 days ago and I stll don't have a workiing unit. They do have my money however.
What about velocity Micro? I am seriously thinking about getting one of their systems and have recall seeing positive comments about their service
