Best value 5.1 speakers??

423 Views 5 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  afrogt
Hello,

I am looking for a new 5.1 setup for a theatre room (14' x 12').
I have a floating budget but would like to keep it around $300-$500 whatever will give me the best value.

2) used for movies/tv/gaming/music
3) Projector: Panasonic Pt-AE8000U
4) Med-large size room with open space into an adjacent room.
5) Will need to have rear speakers on stands as there is not a lot of wallmounting space
6) would have to me 5.1 because I don’t have the mounting space for 7.1

Thanks a lot for everyone's help!

Consider to "float" that budget upward. A medium size room is considered 1,500 to 3,000 cu. ft., while a large size room is considered 3,000 to 5,000 cu.ft. These volumes (and any rooms open to your listening room) are subwoofer related volumes. Speakers are listening position related (how far away from the speakers do you sit?).

I would also begin with a 2.1 system first (main speakers and sub). Then add the center channel when funds are available, then the surrounds (rears).
If you need everything, Rec, sub and 5 speakers, well, you have a few options;
1. Buy used
2. Save your money and come back when your budget is more like $1,500.
3. buy some cheap HtiB and be dissapointed. Heck even the Energy take classic, a decent system designed for a very small room, will set up back 3-400 and you still need a receiver.

There are some decent options in the used market locally, I think I will just use the wealth on information available on this site as a reference.
I appreciate all the input!
Thanks a lot
