I"m in the process of rebuilding my 10 year old computer.

I will be using the new Intel i7 920 processor.

I am basically replacing everything, here is what I plan to purchase:

Asus P6X58D Premium motherboard with the Intel i7 920 processor

I would like to match the best Video Card under $300 to the best matching AVCHD software.

I have been told different Video Cards are best with certain AVCHD software.

Suggestions would be greatly appreciated

PowerDirector 8 imports the raw AVCHD/.mts files default, with no problem. I think a lot of other video editing software needs filters/codecs installed.

I notice it also uses ALL of my C2D E8500s power while rendering (other's seem to not always utilize all of it's power), I have an ATi 5850 too I meant to check if it was tapping into that, but I'm unsure.

Rendering a video as.. I think it was mpeg-2 1080i it rendered in pretty much real time, so a 2 minute video would take about 2 minutes to pump out. At 100% processor usage.

I'd recommend a 5850.. I mean it's powerful, I don't know if there are better options for solely video editing/processing though.
