if your laundry room is close to the home theatre set up.

what washer and dryer should be bought

to keep the noise from being heard outside of the laundry room.

stupid question i know.

but not as bad as this.

which refridgerator should be bought, to go "in" the projector room.

that is quiet enough, to not hear the compressor on it, when it runs ?

anyone besides me thought about this ?

Start by going to the library and checking out the Consumers Union (Consumer Reports) reviews of various appliances to do note the sound level. Or payup and use the CR on-line site.

It has been a couple of years since I was out for an appliance but quieter = more expensive (in any one line).

Is your laundry room sealed off in its own room with a door?

Are the walls and ceiling finished? - no drywall or insulation?

i also chose to put carpet on the floor aswell.

Well it seems you got the room covered.

We bought a Whirlpool washer and dryer about 4 yrs ago. Have had no problems yet. Regarding if they are quiet, you will have to ask my wife

Define a new rule in your household. No laundry being done when its movietime

Forget buying the expensive quite washer and dryers. Instead, buy the cheap loud ones, but get 5 of them. That way, you only have to put up with the noise for a short time. This was the great advice one of my friends gave me. As you can guess, he is a big LSF user.

I found Maytag to have a wide, spacious, detailed sound presentation a little better bass than the others but less refined everywhere else and a little edgy on top comparatively speaking.

Whirlpool sounds both sweet and dramatic, better low level resolution, a smoother upper midrange/low treble and not as bright or forward.

Kenmore offers more transparency, more tonal body, richer midrange, deeper and fuller bass, more coherence, and better intelligibility.

Sorry I just could not resist.

Wine bottle refrigerators tend to be very quiet

Did you upgrade to a cyrogenically treated $1500 after market power cord? Solved all my problems

Oh, no when I said "a little edgy on top comparatively speaking" I meant the physical top of the machine had more of an edge than the others.

Maybe if I had the entire washer and dryer cyrogenically treated it would soften this edge a bit

At first I thought this was really a dumb question then realized my laundry room is also right next to my theater. My wife bought Kenmore front loaders and they are pretty quiet however she hates the hassle of using a front loading washer. (locked door, cannot interrupt the cycle)

The one thing that is key is that some items in the wash are just plain noisy (snaps on jeans) especially in front loading tumble machines. I did insulate the wall and always close the washroom door as well as the theater door.

On the other hand, there are some shows like 24 and Prison Break where you just can't have the laundry room in operation.

...And buy the opposite of what they recommend. Usually a good policy with CR.

Don't forget to use some weather stripping and threshold to totally air-seal the door. You'll be surprised what a difference that will make.

For refrigerators, if you get one that's Peltier cooler based, it is dead quiet. This is a kind of cooling where electricity pulls heat from one side of a specific coupling to another, with no moving parts. It does, however, use a fair amount of power. They are also fairly expensive (but can be had, for places like high-end hotel minibars etc).

I prefer the Bosch front loaders; they are quiet and clean well. Actually, I've found Bosch anything appliance to be quieter than any typical American brand (dishwasher, etc).

In the end, though, you're probably better off insulating the room where they're at (putting fibreglass batts in the wall, etc) than trying to get the quietest possible appliance.
