Has anyone tried using Bell Expressvu 6000 with the OTA module made for the Dish version of this receiver?

One page at http://www.global-cm.net/CAN/equip/BExVu.html says this is not possible, but on another page they say the BEV 6000 supports all ATSC standards and is future-proof, and at BEV's own web site they suggest that Canadians near the U.S. border can watch HDTV from U.S. OTA stations, although they do not specifically say that the 6000 receiver can be used to tune these stations.

So what's the real deal? Has anybody actually tried this?

The answer i have received is that the bev software does not support the 8vsb module YET but that they should support it sometime this fall.

This post from earlier in the year on another board suggests another option. I haven't tried this (don't have the 8vsb module), but I would love to know if anybody has done this and made it work. http://pub3.ezboard.com/fsattelitedi...opicID=7.topic

I have both the 6000 units and yes it's true that the software that Bev is currently running in their 6000 does not support the OTA module.

I do believe that theres a good chance that the workaround posted in the previous link would work..thats is, using the Dish software, but still being able to view the subscribed Bev channels as well as then having OTA functionality in a Bev 6000.

However I'm afraid I'm not going to try because I know of at least one instance where someone mistakenly downloaded the Bev software into a Dish 6000 and never could get it to re-download the Dish software no matter what was tried. As opposed to the lower end Dish/Bev receivers which seem to have no real trouble whatsoever switching software back and forth.

My 8vsb module is now operating in the Expressvu 6000. The unit is operating with Dish Network software. Expressvu satellite channels seem to be operating normally. Over the air reception is also working fine. All the other Dish Network updates, such as the ability to stretch 4:3 images on a HD channel, are also functioning

The basic procedure that I used to get this to work is posted below. Thanks to those in this and other forums who theorized that this procedure would work.

1. Pointed my dish at the 61.5-degree satellite. I was then able to watch Dish Network barker channels and their HD demo loop.

2. Turned the 6000 off and it then proceeded to download the new software.

3. Pointed the dish back to the Expressvu satellite at 91 degrees.

4. The 6000 now received Expressvu programming but had Dish network graphics and options.

5.Set the 6000 to ask before downloading new software. This will prevent going back to Expressvu software.

6. Powered down the unit and installed the 8vsb module. When powered up the OTA setup became available. I did the setup and now get great pictures on the digital channels available to me.
