I admit I'm a newbie when it comes to audio equipment and also have a small budget for a sub (

For music especially this will give you tighter, cleaner output and is in your budget. It really depends on how much you want to spend, for $200 nothing will touch the H-100 for a combination of music/ht. The STF-2 is on sale right now although over $100 more will be a better choice for both.

Hi, is the STF-2 a better choice for a 16.5L x 13W x 10H theater room of a PB10? I am assuming both of these will be better than a BIC H100? Thank you.

I looked at these two subs(New Hsu STF-2 and Used SVS PB-10) when I was purchasing mine. They both are excellent subs for the money. I think the SVS goes a little deeper but it costs more unless you buy it used.


In the end I got the SVS because I got a decent deal on it used and it was front firing(That ended up being a requirement for me). I am completely happy with the SVS PB-10 and their customer support is top notch. However, I am sure I would have been happy with the Hsu if the requirement had been that I needed a down firing sub.

thanks. What were the considerations into down-firing vs. front-firing? I see this requirement a lot but not sure what all the factors to consider are.

It wasn't a good requirement! It was due to WAF. I had to place the sub in an enclosure in my entertainment center. A front firing sub was the only sub that would work in the enclosure. Here are some pictures of what I had before(Yamaha) to what I have now(SVS PB-10). I don't think it really matters whether it is front firing or down firing if you have the ability to place the sub in the ideal spot in a room(Usually a corner near the listening position).
