Big Brother 14 - HD? .... NOPE, still SD.

7573 Views 47 Replies 21 Participants Last post by  BoilerJim
Does anyone know if Big Brother has FINALLY invested in HD cameras for their 14th season? Imo, it looks ridiculous having Julie standing next to an HD TV while talking to the television audience, yet the show hasn't yet been in HD.

Knowing CBS it should be the same studio with the same SD cameras.

Ironic that ABC is doing a similar show in HD.
CBS took the money they could have used for HD cameras and instead paid lawyers to try to stop "Glass House!"

Well, Glass House is a replica of Big Brother, but it is what it is.

If BB isn't in HD, I really think that someone/somebodies at CBS are off their rocker.
It is a bit funny that a show like Deadliest Catch is shot in HD with many of the cameras destroyed through drops, smashes, and corrosion, but a show shot in a studio isn't in HD.
At least frame it in 16:9 SD if they aren't going to upgrade to HD.
The control room for the Big Brother studio is SD.

If the show was to go HD it would mean upgrading the BB studio control room for HD.

I doubt CBS did that.

I say this every year...

Doubt it will happen though.

How long do control rooms go without upgrades? I would assume this one is 12 now. 2000 was a very long time ago in the world of technology, though I suppose it could've been upgraded since just without HD in mind. Even the Wikipedia page notes that it's the last remaining primetime program in HD.'

To give a sense for how old it is, when BB debuted, they had partnered with Real Networks for online streaming.
I agree they should upgrade to HD, It just seems like CBS has no interest in doing any major changes for the show.

For season 6 in 2005 the show got a new studio and they still filmed in SD.

They could have upgraded the control room to HD even if they were going to do the show in SD.

As you mentioned with the live feeds they have been with real and Real's Superpass since the start of the show.

It was not till season 11 that Real switched to flash video and the transition was not perfect.

The Superpass flash video player was so annoying someone created a video player that worked better.

Going by the screen capture posted by Superpass on FB it's going to be another season in SD.

Unlike Survivor and The Amazing Race, CBS knows that people will still watch BB despite it's being in SD. Just seems sad that in 2012 that a major network isn't broadcasting every show in HD.
If ZAP2it is to be believed, then BB14 will FINALLY be in HD.
My DirecTV guide is also listing it as HD...So we shall see...if it is, then it's about freaking time!!

My TiVo also has the "HD" tag as well.
My guide always incorrectly lists 4:3 shows as HD.

I would 100% doubt the show is HD. CBS wants to spend the least amount on money on Big Brother.

Video from press day appears to be 4:3 stretched to 16:9,

'Big Brother' Introduces Format Shake-Up, New Houseguests

By Tim Kenneally, TheWrap.com - Jul. 5, 2012

"Big Brother" has found a way to distinguish itself from that pesky look-alike show "The Glass House."

CBS, which is currently embroiled in a legal entanglement with ABC over the similarities between its own "Big Brother" and that network's "The Glass House," announced a format shake-up for its upcoming 14th season on Thursday. The network also revealed the identities of the new competitors for the season, which premieres July 12.

For the first time, "Big Brother" will bring four of the most successful players from previous seasons back on the show to compete against each other in a separate competition for their own prize.

The four returning contestants will be introduced during the show's season premiere.

The network also introduced the 12 new houseguests who will populate the "Big Brother" house this season. The incoming contestants range from the former bass player for the female metal group Kittie to a house-flipper from Bennington, Vt.

For the record, the decor theme of the "Big Brother" house this season will be "urban pop culture," with three-dimensional, white “wave wall” covers in the living room. Of course, it's the waves that the contestants will make among each other that will most draw viewers' interest.

Meet the new "Big Brother" contestants below. Which contestants do you hope to see return for the new season? Have your say in the comments section.

The "shake up" sounds like another excuse to bring Rachel back...again.

Luckily, that woman may never appear on reality TV again. Or hopefully, on any TV. Poor Brendon, he was so blind.

The four mentors are supposedly Boogie, Britney, Janelle, Dan.

It's not gonna make any difference if it's in HD or not... It's gonna be just like Survivor.. Blurry regardless . . .

Oh? Did I miss something? I know they were on the latest Amazing Race, but I don't watch it.
