Intresting story and comments at http://www.zdnet.com/zdnn/stories/ne...kpt=zdhpnews01 regarding the Digital Millenium Copyright act. Maybe the forces that want to take away our HDTV (i.e. the evil MPAA) will find that they "doth protest too much" yet. Time will tell, but continued letters to the mentioned congressionals re play not pay may be in order.

Good article. some excerpts

The DMCA is pretty standard and clear, and so far the courts have interpreted the DMCA exactly the way it was meant to be interpreted--it's working as it intended to work," said Fritz Attaway, executive vice president for governmental affairs at the Motion Picture Association of America.

In April, entertainment industry groups threatened Princeton professor Edward Felten, telling him he risked violating the DMCA for giving a speech on his research into hacking security technology designed to protect digital music

Those who want to change it have come across as "hacker extremists," while copyright holders seem pleased, one official said. What's more, the entertainment industry is a major contributor to many lawmakers, meaning it would be a challenge to change their minds.

But if it becomes enough of an issue to annoy the public then public lists of those bribes may become an interesting issue in a future election. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif

- Tom (not a "hacker extremist")

Hopefully it doesn't depend on the younger generations. On a program today on NPR, they did a piece of the loss of privacy in public due to cameras and such. They asked a couple of teenagers in Times Square if they worried about Big Brother watching them, and they said, "You mean the TV show Big Brother?" :)
