No, I'm not talking about that, LOL. I have a 73" mits. And i concider it my third child. But when I got it about 6 months ago, every time I would sit in front of it, it would be like wow this thing is huge. But now I want bigger. Other then going to projection( which I won't do) does anybody know if any manufacture is going to be making a bigger tv then 73" in the near future? Thanks

At current costs, I would think going FP is just about the only way to get bigger than 73".

Short of selling those children of yours.....

I agree for what you will pay for a flat panel at that size you can have much more. Also if you buy a PJ you can set it up so the image is not as large as it could go, then when you get the itch again make the image larger.

I am trying to decide between the 61" and 67" Samsung LED'd 7Series DLP machines and am mainly concerned about how the image will appear from the relatively close seating distance by which I am constrained. I cannot be further back from the screen than 7 ft. and I do watch a fair amount of SD local channels in addition to HD offerings via my cable-based DVR box. I expect to go with a newer BlueRay player in a couple of months, but for now the TV must come first and I am expecting to bite the bullet on that within the next two weeks.

Seeing the title of this thread has prompted me to ask about how risky any of you think it would be for me, considering my seating constraints, to go up to the 67" DLP machine? Btw, I have been reading enough to know that this seating distance is just at the edge of recommended values. I am trying to be optimistic.

Any input would be much appreciated.

Rudy,

Using some rough calculations and a whole bunch of fingers and toes, I get your screen size to be.... 56 inches.

Here's how I got it:

7 feet * 12 inches = 84 inches from front of screen.

84 / 150 (optimnal screen size 1.5 * viewing distance) = 0.56

0.56 * 100 = 56

So from your perspective, I'd go with 73! The bigger the better.... OK, seriously, ether of those screens will fall in the optimal viewing size to get the best results from a 1080p source.

However, as the thread says, bigger is better and you may well kick yourself for not going bigger when you had the chance.

im going to agree with the general sentiment of this thread. bigger is better.

people who are concerned about not haveing a big enough room should just try to fit a 65" and see how well it performs.

seriously, for some reason ppl think they dont have a big enough room, but unless you live in a closet you probably have plenty of space for a 65"

I have to agree with the above. The room I have mine in is 13x15 (feet) and the TV is along the 13' axis. Mines a 60, and while I'm not disappointed for the amount of money I wanted to spend, I look at it now and I honestly think I could deal with a 100+ inch image without a second thought. Not that I had 100" worth of $ to spend, but had I been willing to spend the bucks, the screen size would have been no trouble.

Let the budget decide, not the perceived lack of room. It'll be fine.

7 feet from a 60+" display is way too close in my opinion.

Give Philips a call. You could start with this:

and then go bigger:

Getting back to the original question, there's talk of a Mitsubishi Laservue over 80 inches late next year. There may be announcements at next week's CES.

are you just generally saying that, or are you saying there are rumors that they would announce such TV?

Actually, opinions can be either right or wrong.

If I said "In my opinion, you should be smeared with honey and dropped into a pit of grizzlies." You'd probably think I was wrong. Of course, you could respectfully disagree as you were being lowered...

I started with a 65" in my living room. I realized in a couple of days it was too small. My budget required I wait 30 months or so and then I moved to a 72" knowing full well a 100" screen would be just about right. I am in the camp that will move to the largest screen class I can muster the dollars for. When you get bigger, you do need to be concerned about the quality of the SD sources you send it. I have an XA2, a Tivo HD, and a Panny BD35. They all go through a DVDO Edge before they get to the display.

The problem with 70 plus inch class of displays is that you pretty much only have the Samsung and Mits rear projectors to choose from currently and they both have their share of issues. I just got the Sammy 72 and if the current pricing trend continues in 24-36 months someone will sell an 80" display with better performance than what is current available at 72-73".

I predict that in this 24-36 month time frame 80" displays will be in the sub 4k price range. I am hoping that will include a Panasonic plasma. I have no doubt Sharp will get there quite soon with LCDs, the question with Sharp will be picture quality.

There's also talk on the LV thread that the current 7k cost of the 65 will mean that no bigger set will ever see the light of day, along with any G2 versions.

I for one am in the same "wanna/need 100+" boat. I'm just not that keen to go through the FP hoops though.

Pretty funny with the honey stuff, BTW.
