It seems as if most of the talk about the 4000 series has stopped. Does anybody know if a 4000 series card can bitstream with new drivers?


I ask because with the Realtek 2.42 drivers, the control panel lists HDCP support and lists all HD codecs as supported. In 2.35, the same card listed no for HDCP and only listed lossy codecs in the control panel.


Is there any free software I could use to test the functionality?

Only 5000 series can bitstream

4000 series cannot bitstream HD audio. The low-end 5000 series cards are dirt cheap.

The 4000 series will never bitstream HD audio because it is hardware limitation (it does not have PAP (protected audio path) which is a hardware requirement).

I believe OP is talking about the project where ffdshow would be used to send the audio tracks in a PCM container (or some such). Albain (who worked on ffdshow) for the 5000 series did mention that 4000 might be on the cards. The idea was that if the PCM container worked then there would be no need of PAP.

Don't know what has been updated in the last few months as I haven't followed it as much.
