Ran into the following being sold for $100. Owner says it was purchased at BJ's 2 years ago and only used about 10 times. Worth the $100? Any personal experiences with this unit?

Looks like a nostalgia electrics or helman group popper.

Definately home grade construction, but, that's okay.

Actually, I will chime in on these threads.

These import machines have thin, stamped tin walled panels. There really isn't any rugged companents, so, choose carefully.

Looks like the Nostalgia Electric unit. My wife got me one about a year and a half ago.


My personal opinion? It's a poorly designed piece of junk. My biggest complaint is that there is absolutely nothing connecting the stirrer gear to the drive gear. It's basically held together by gravity, but the slightest friction (such as 4oz of unpopped popcorn) will cause the gear to skip and the stirrer will stop, resulting in a jammed kettle and a unsalvageable burnt ball of poporn. For the record, I only use 4oz portion packs and I clean the kettle after just about every use.


I temporarily solved the problem by jamming the scoop under the kettle handle to force the gears together, but even that didn't solve the problem all the time.


Take the $100 and put it towards a Paragon. You get what you pay for.
