Black bars on top and bottom of screen not perfectly even using Z2..Why??

401 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  DaveInBerlinNJ
After mounting and tweaking and adjusting...ect...ect.. I cannot seem to get the black bars (spaces) to be perfectly even on the left and right side and top and bottom. I have it ceiling mounted, I did use the lens shift to adjust, I have the 104" Carada screen it is level. Is it just impossible to get it to be perfect, or do I have an alignment problem with something inside the Z2? Anyone else have this problem?

Assuming your screen is level then it's a matter of your PJ not being perpendicular to the screen. This can be caused by many things like the ceiling slightly sloping, pitch and yawl being off.

Getting the PJ true to the screen is all up to the adjustably of your PJ mount.

Give me more info how the distortion looks and I'll give you my best guess to fix it. Draw a picture if you must.

Also note that if you are basing your setup on a DVD that is 1.85:1 you will have slight masking bars on the top and bottom of your screen. This is because 16X9 screen are 1.78:1 aspect ratio. This always throws off first time users. You would have thought HDTV would have gone with 1.85:1 to lessen the confusion.
It is actually the masking bars that seem to be uneven. If you measure the top left it is something like 6" from the top of the masking bar to the top of the screen and on the right side it is like 6 3/4" from the top of the masking bar to the top of the right hand side of the screen...about a 3/4" difference. I have the problem on the bottom the left and right side are not equal. I did expect masking bars on some movies but I thought they should be equally spaced. The picture does not look cockeyed but the masking bars do. I have a DIY mount and it does have adjustment screws with tension springs, but I can't seem to even it out. Any help would be appreciated.
Assuming screen is level...

If you have:

6" on top left + 6 3/4" on top right

AND

6 3/4" on bottom left + 6" on bottom right

then projector is not level...

lower left side of pj (which will of course raise right side) until bars are equal.

If you have:

6" on top left + 6 3/4" on top right

AND

6" on bottom left + 6 3/4" on bottom right

then projector is not square to screen...

pivot pj on post mount, moving left side of pj away from screen (which will of course move right side toward screen) until bars are equal.
