Krylon Fusion matte black is what I used to spray mine. Would definitely spray them rather than trying to roll or brush. You just need to mask off over the drivers. Most new speakers come with a piece of paper for masking off the drivers so you can easily spray paint the bezel to suit. On the grilles, do very light coats from different directions - you just want to change the color and not clog the holes.

I'm actually in the middle of a new theater build in our new home and just finished installing 4 new height speakers. I just grabbed a can of krylon black and sprayed them just like others have suggested. Multiple thin coats will do the trick.
Spraying will have zero impact on sound but will look great. Just make sure to cover whatever shouldn't be painted and give it a go.
