So I am about to build my first DIY blackout cloth screen. I have a Carl's 66x110 unfolded and awaiting frame build this weekend with 1x4's and metal bracing. My w1070 is 11'9" from the screen area. The room is 130" wide and ceiling 7'5" drop. Full control of ambient light (man cave), but walls are oatmeal/tan and ceiling is white drop ceiling tiles. I am planning to do a 121" 16:9 screen with a 2" felt tape border. I will be back approximately 14' from screen viewing. When I enter the settings into the BenQ or the Peerless AV Projector Distance calc, I get similar readings for my screen size. 105x59. If I go to other sites I get 105.5x59.375 to = 121" diag.

Questions:

Is size look okay for environment described? When I build my frame, do I worry about the numbers to right of decimal or just round to 105x59, then add my 4" for borders on each side? I do plan on stapling to front as I will not have enough to go to sides or back to staple on width. These wrinkles concern me, but Carl's folks insist they will pull out.

I have the projector mounted using a Peerless PPA.

Thanks for your help!

I fear I have asked to many questions??

Naw...just a tad impatient.

Staple in the front, but double up you staples at every point, and pull the BOC as tight as you can opposite each previous staple point.

You'll have to count on the extra material length to get your most tension, but you have to get "Top to Bottom" tension right first.

You made thing more difficult by opting for just 110" wide BOC. You have no other option but to build a Frame that is 110" x 63"

Felt tape over Pulled BOC and staples?

Good luck with that. Sounds like it's gonna be a bit rough looking.Better to use 1/2" x 2" MDF Trim covered in 3" Tape....or better still Black Velvet, and tacked into place using 1.25" Finish Nails.

The latter far better at salvaging a problematical build, and giving you something to crow about.

Asking lots of questions......a good thing to do.

Following good advice....priceless.

Thank you MississippiMan. The cloth size was an oversight on my part. I will do my best with the info provided.

I also have a 5x10 piece of Sintra coming my way. One or the other will be my screen of choice. I have been reading your threads on that as well.

Thanks again!

Sintra will render the BOC moot.

So don't expend too much effort on the BOC

MississippiMan,

Thanks for all the help. With my son and I using finger force, we were able to make the 110x64 frame and take the BOC almost completely down all sides. Very tough on the hands, but the result was great. Finished, mounted to the wall for screen adjustment. Very pleased. No wrinkles and picture looks very good.

Still have work to do with border and such, but very pleased. If Sintra is even better, I will be pursuing this summer when I can spray.

** Please note that my room is very bright as you can see. White ceiling, oat/tan walls and oat flooring. Only positive is no outside light in my cave.

Thanks again!
