Blockbuster/DirecTV install -- should I complain?

387 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  JorgeGVB
I just got my Para Todos DirecTV installation done yesterday. For the most part everything went fine (showed up on time, with the elliptical dish, etc.). Got signal strengths of 80s from 101 and 70s from 119. However, there are two things I'm thinking of complaining about. What do you think?

1. The last cable he ran coming into my house is rated RG6/U. However, I was up on the roof after he left and noticed that the cable coming from the dish is rated CATV 18 AWG -- no RG rating -- and it is the longest cable run. Are they equivalent? Is this bad and should I complain and ask them to install RG6 everywhere?

2. The dish has only a 4x2 multiswitch, not a 4x4 as others have said they got installed. I said to the installer "I thought this came with a 4x4 multiswitch" and he said something like "This is what we've been given to install lately." I currently only want to hook up two receivers so I'm kinda OK, but I'd rather have the 4x4 for later expansion. Does the deal call for a 4x4 or are they "legal" when they install a 4x2?

Thanks,

Martin

PS: This is a great Forum. I've learned a lot by just listening. Thanks to everyone.

If you get signal on both outputs from the multiswitch then the cable is fine.
What if you want to get 2 Philips Direct TV TiVo receivers? Then you will need the 4x4. You should call and get them to install the 4x4. The DTV Tivo units are only $99 at Circuit City, you can't beat that price.
