Blockbuster - "Long wait" getting old

825 Views 18 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  Robert D
All the HD-DVD movies in my queue (including the ones that are already released) are marked "Long wait". It appears that they have a very small inventory. I got MDB and TD fairly quick but now I've been waiting over a week for AOP13, JH and CM (all released on the 9th).

I'm seriously considering converting to Netflix if these movies don't ship soon. Also, the same problem appears to be happening with new SD-DVD releases as well, both Munich and The New World have "Long wait" marked in my queue.

Anybody else having this problem with Blockbuster on-line? :(

I think part of it depends on what part of the US you are in.....since a portion of the titles are shipped directly from the stores...so one would assume that if it isn't a hot title in Kansas City, then your chances are better than let's say LA. I live in KC and got A New World yesterday from BB. I would venture to guess that the HD titles are a whole other story....distribution center only item.

There can be 'Long Waits' from NetFlix as well , I have removed 2 HD-DVD's from my selections because they sat there with no change for a week after release .

I had the same problem with Blockbuster. I had BSG:Season 2 in my queue for months and it never budged from "Long Wait." I added HDDVD movies and I did not receive a single one over a three week period. I finally quit BB and joined Netflix. The free month offer that came with the Toshiba player helped sway me to Netflix.

So far, I have had no problems getting HD DVD's. Yesterday, Unforgiven was marked as "long wait." This morning, Netflix sent me an e-mail saying that Unforgiven shipped today. I miss Blockbuster's weekly in-store coupons but I am enjoying viewing these HD DVD's.

One thing that you might want to try with Blockbuster is to remove from your queue all other SDDVD's not marked as "Long Wait." Force them to send you a "Long Wait" SDDVD or HDDVD since none of the movies in your queue would be "available." I only have HDDVD's in my Netflix queue so maybe that is why I have had no problems receiving the disks as they are released, even if they had previously been marked as not available. It might be a worth-while experiment for you to try before you decide to make the switch.

I guess it depends on you nearest Netflix shipping center. Mine is Phoenix, I have my 5th HD DVD on its way to me, and the only HD DVD showing up as "Long Wait" is 'Rumor has It", which I wasn't so hot for anyway. I got Unforgiven & FMJ shipped yesterday, the first day of release. Guess there's not so many HD DVD enthusiasts in Arizona?
Well, no sooner did I post this thread then I got a notice that Jarhead just shipped. I'll see how the others do over the next few weeks.

Thanks to everyone for your responses.
It was my fault. I was holding Jarhead for a few days. Watched it last night and sent it back today. Sorry! :D
In trying BB, I also encountered the "Long Wait" issue. In addition, some movies that have been available for weeks are still listed as coming soon (I'm on the East Coast). Netflix is still the best way to go.
Yep, same issues here with BB. They are getting dropped this week.

I gave up on Blockbuster and went back to netflix for HD movies...I didnt get a single HD DVD from BB, opened Netflix up again and they shipped me Assault on 13 and Jarhead that day. I sent them back and just received Full Metal Jacket and Unforgiven is on the way

all my HD movies on Blockbuster said coming soon even if they were out already

I'm a member and put a bunch of HD discs near the top of my queue. I received Jarhead the week it was released and received Goodfellas a week after putting it in my queue.

Keep in mind that HD discs are rolling out slowly but surely. Blockbuster will undoubtedly increase the number of copies they carry, though it won't happen overnight.

Even if it says "Long Wait" I have received these titles without waiting more than a couple weeks.

BTW - I logged in to my BBO account last night and noticed that ALL of the HD titles I had in my queue were AUTOMATICALLY CHANGED to standard DVD's. No idea why they did this... I'm hoping it was an accident, though it was a major pain having to delete and re-add all these titles.

I'm hoping this is an isolated incndent. Check your queue and let me know if the same thing happened to you.

The HD titles all have the suffix "[HD]" If this is missing, then your items were automatically changed without your consent.
All of my HD got switch to SD Dvd too. I guess it must have been a glitch. I guess it wasn't only me.
Ive gotten Apollo 13, Million Dollar Baby, Doom, and The Last Saumrai from Blockbuster. Assault on Precinct 13 should be here on Monday.
All of my HD movies in my Blockbuster queue got switched to the standard movies as well. At first I was amazed that all my movies were "Available" then I noticed that they were no longer the HD versions.
Mine were switched too!! Time for net flix.
The good news is I got another HD title.

The bad news is all the HD movies in my queue were switched to standard movies, which I deleted and replaced with HD again, go figure.

I'm going to stick with BB for the time being, but if further delays in shipping result BB can color me gone.
The first HD disk I got from blockbuster was The Last Samurai and it was scratched beyond belief. The movie couldn't have been to that many households to have been scratched like that. The movie played for a while, but the player would get hung up (I assume to the scratches) at various spots. I could recreate the problem by going back to the same spot.

Million Dollar Baby should be here today and I now have another Samurai coming my way. Hopefully these are in better condition.

Seriously, how could someone be so careless with the disks to get them scratched like that?

All it takes is one household and one kid. :)
