Greetings -

Am considering getting a 3D-capable Blu-Ray player.

(Just have a conventional 480p DVD currently.)

I'm quite confused by all this new talk of 3D televisions/panels.

I thought that any standard TV could display the 3D feed,

and that all one needed was the glasses.

Straight talk welcome. If I buy a 3D BluRay disc (say, Burton's Alice or Despicable Me), will it provide a correct 3D experience on our KDL-40v2500?

Thanks,

No, that Bravia is not 3D capable.

You need 3D TV with HDMI 1.4a support.

you will need a 3d tv and 3d blu-ray player in order to watch a 3d blu-ray moive

hope this helps, the panny vt25 and samsung c7000 and c8000 are 3d tvs

Actually if you have a decent computer then all you need is PowerDVD 10 or equivalent and some anaglyphic glasses and your non 3D TV will work with a BluRay disc.

Can/does the 3D Blu-Ray player "dumb-down" the 3D signal to standard when it encounters a conventional tv?

Thanks again,

Thanks again,

Yes, the player will just play the base view,

usually the left eye view.

Some players allow you to select between left or right eye view for 2D playback.
