Avia pro would be nice but Avia Guide to Home Theater would have to be improved to make it worthwhile on Blu Ray (that is if you ask me.). It doesn't have blacker then black pluge or accurate grey scale patterns or pixel width accurate test patterns like you find with Avia Pro or Digital Video Essentials.

On Sony Blu Ray discs calibration patterns are hidden. Go to the main menu and type 7669 to bring them up.

Also on some titles the THX optimizer is available with audio and video test patterns.

Any good blu-ray calibration software out there?

Just looking for your basic calibration I am no expert

but like to use it to dial in my own basic levels.

Does anyone know if you calibrate with a non blu-ray

video calibration software would it even matter?

You mean a calibration disc? This is free and is what I use: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=948496

The greyscale adjustments will be the same. HD uses a slightly different color standard than SD, but if the player does the conversion correctly it should work well enough.

But: since the AVS HD 709 disc is free I would use it instead.
