After dozens of purchased disks (and dozens of Netflix disks), I finally purchased my first defective BD. Months ago I purchased the Spider-Man 3 pack and this weekend I finally got around to viewing the first movie in the trilogy. Well the screen goes black and it hangs all my players at 63% or so.

The disk itself looks absolutely pristine flawless so I don't know what's up. I e-mailed Sony and they provided instructions on how to return the disk via Fedex and they will send out a new one. Needless to say I was impressed at the ease, as I was afraid I had waited too long (and I don't have a receipt).

Anyone else have issues and go through this process? Thank you!

Edit: Yes all my firmwares are up to date!

When you buy a BD or any movie on any format, ALWAYS save the receipt for 30 days, or whatever amount of days indicated on the store's return policy. That way, you can just exchange the movie in the store. I've bought a few defective DVDs in the past. Very annoying. Never bought a defective BD yet. I wonder if BDs have a higher defect rate.

If you don't watch the DVD(s) until after the 30 store return policy, that receipt doesn't mean squat.

Anyway... the OP had his/her problem reconciled. I've dealt with Sony in the past with "defective" DVD's from Netflix that would not play in my Toshiba player (due to encryption). They sent me new (sealed) copies to keep without any question/hassle.

I win the award for most Blu-ray disc replacements.

1)Blade Runner Final Cut - Labeled Workprint(No WP at all)(I might have been the first customer in the world to get their copy
)

2)POTC - Misframe

3)The 5th Element - crap transfer

4)Starship Troopers - repeating frames

5)Scorpion king - inner ring was missing 1/2 of the plastic, PS3 still played it fine. Universal replaced it without issue though. They get an A from me.

6)Air Force One - missing subs for Russian dialogue

7)Out of 7 total cases for Lost Seasons 1 and 2 I received 2 good cases. At least Disney got them to me quickly without issue, they paid about $15 in shipping. LOL. Stupid Elite Cases.

Sony needs better QC, on the bright side they have disc replacing down to a science.

Warner loses points for not taking care of the Matrix Revolutions. Everyone else is great.

I came into this thread thinking you were going to ask what will eventually replace Blu-ray disk. I would guess if anything flash storage/memory cards with a heavy dose of online streaming and direct download. At least with flash you won't have to worry about disks skipping.

Sorry I couldn't be of help.
