Blu-Ray Mega Changer

1346 Views 6 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Further
I was wondering if anyone has heard of a Blu-ray Mega changer or if anyone has built a blu-ray mega changer?

I have seen the VAIO HTPC changer, but the changer itself is not blu-ray. I would think it would feasible to build one assuming you could find a drive that would fit into a changer with the same power needs and I/O.

Maybe it is easier to build an HTPC and rip all your BRs to the hard drive. You will need massive storage though..

I was going after that as well, just thougt of HD DVD drive rather than BD.

It appears that due to some HD DVD/BD DVD structure differences it will not be possible.

Binnerup, the developer of My Movies pointed it out to me in this thread: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...php?p=10270859

Way too much space needed. I do not need instant playback and would prefer uncompressed. For me, going to optical makes more sense.

If I could however download an uncompressed HD copy of a movie to my computer from some movie site and keep it, then I would consider circumventing disc all together and up my storage. But that is not the case right now.

Storage is getting cheap.. but not cheap enough compared to optical.

I am not talking about compressing, but an actual rip (exact copy) of the HD-DVD or BluRay via AnyDVD HD. I am following this way since the hdisks are cheap nowdays..
Hard disk space is MUCH cheaper than BD blanks

But, when you buy the film, you get the disk for free (or do you buy the disk and get the film for free?)
