Just purchased my first Plasma. After reading the proper 100 Hour Burn in, seems I am supposed try to avoid black bars, I am wondering what about the Black Bars on the top and bottom of the Blu-Ray movies. Should I avoid watching any movies with black bars or is it safe to do so after the 100 hr break in period?

Thank you for any feedback.

It's safe anytime. As long as you are mixing up content and not ONLY watching movies with black bars it's just fine. Break in is over rated anyways. I do all kinds of things that many say is "plasma abuse" but nothings ever happened to it.

way to much is made of burn-in. use your set and enjoy it. i own three plasma sets never watch anything but original aspect ratio and never followed any break-in.

I agree, worst case scenario might end up with a little image retention but will easily go away. To be on the safe side mixing in some full screen and blu ray movies should keep a set from having any issues.

Off Topic....Chatted with Panasonic Concierge and was told, I should wait till after break-in to play xbox, ps3 and wii, and to turn it off every hour 1/2 or so for a few minutes. I did a search and got several suggestions. Wasn't sure which to follow.

Sorry I'm a Newbie with the Plasma and just dont wanna screw it up.

Thank you.

hmm... Turning it off every 1/2 hour seems excessive to me.

My in-laws have an older Panasonic plasma and the kids love playing Wii on it... Never a problem, and they can go for hours at a time.

I'ev been watching movies with the black bars top/bottom on a brand new Samsung. But, at night I've been running the break-in DVD from the master break-in thread for a good 10+ hours. I turn it off to let it cool when I get up and go to work. Nonetheless, I'll keep using the tv as normal but with running that break0in dvd at night for a couple of weeks to get it through the break in period.

Always make sure your picture settings are reasonable.
