I read a report from someone at CES that said that Blu-Ray recorders were nowhere to be seen. Is anybody who was at CES able to shed a little more light on this?

(Not that it really matters just yet - rewriteable BD discs are still $10 each at the local Fry's, and I still remember shelling out $6 each for DVD+RWs in 2002, so now is not quite the time - but still, if there's no movement now, what chance is there of the hardware becoming affordable in the next 2-3 years?)

The only recorders I saw were camcorders from Hitachi.

Discs are coming down - I got some for $4 each from Frys on sale one time.

In Japan the recorders are prevalent - I did talk to one manufacturer who cited copyright issues as the main reason for the lack of them in the USA.

You know how much (or little) the studios want us recording high quality archive material...!

It took at least a few years for DVD recorders and combo recorder units to show up so it's not really surprising.

Additionally the optical disc recording market shrinks annually as more people archive their data on hard drives, etc.
