Blueaound Vault and Maverick audio tubemagic d2

597 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  KenM10759
So I just got this DAC for my downstairs setup but went with the RME ADI-2 DAC FS instead for that.
So now I have the Maverick. Is it worth setting up with my Bluesound Vault 2 or is the DAC in the Vault 2 still better?
I know I could just set it up but I'd need to grab a couple cables to do so, so wanted to see if anyone had any feedback before I did so.

Hrm,

I'm having a hard time finding what the components of the Vault 2 are. Mean while, Maverick Audio tells you what's inside their Tubemagic D2.

At the end of the day, you'd be hard pressed to hear a difference in a DAC compared to simply hearing the difference between a high quality recording and something highly compressed or with low dynamic range. The real difference will be heard when comparing the solid state pre-amp out stage versus the tube pre-amp out stage.

Very best,
The DAC in Bluesound Vault 2 and Node 2 devices is a TI Burr-Brown PCM5122. Implementation is everything, not the DAC chip by itself. In my own tests using the coax digital out from my Vault 2 and its own DAC via the analog outputs, I can't discern a difference between a DAC that does the job or one that "performs at a high level."

Tubes generally add "warmth", known in some circles as distortion or color. I say use whatever sounds best to your ears, with your equipment, in your room.
