How do you make it so it doesn't harden up so quickly? Any other good tips for working with it?

Put the container in the fridge for a little bit. It hardens much faster when it is hot outside.
bondo doesn't have that long of a working time. you can use a little less hardener, but you have to be careful to not use to little.

In my experience, its best to just mix small amounts and deal with short working time...

Cause after you are done with a multiple batch patch job, you can always start sanding right after you get done patching. Just start sanding where you first started applying the bondo.

Mix a bit, use it up. Repeat as necessary.

Use less hardener, and don't work at a room temperature higher than 75 degrees.
Also spread it out so that the heat it generates can escape, or quickly apply it to all locations and then go back and fuss with smoothing it.
Great tips... Thanks everyone!
