Anyone excited for this to come out? I played 1 and 2 back to back over the summer. Surprisingly I did not get burnt out on them but purposely did not do any stretch playing more than 1 hour or so. No DLC for me yet and I did not pre-order but may pick it up soon after release.

Played a couple hours yesterday on Xbox One X as Zane. First impression: not much has changed, but after a while I started to appreciate the improved combat. And the game is still fun, albeit very familiar now.

I haven't found any really good guns yet, but it's still early. I'm hoping to find that one weapon I never want to part with.

I played Borderlands 3 solo* all weekend -- this game is seriously addictive. And I was afraid I had had enough of Borderlands....

Once I reached the Katagawa Ball boss battle, I was thinking I couldn't get past it. It seemed impossible - I kept fighting, dying, respawning, fighting some more, depleting all the cash I earned on that level.... I was worried I couldn't take it on solo, or that I had the wrong character, skills, or weapons on hand. But an hour later, a change of strategy revealed how to get past this thing, and it was the most rewarding gaming experience I've had this year.

The initial criticisms of B3 are probably made by those who only played it a couple hours. Like the original Borderlands, once the character reaches level 10 and beyond, it becomes awesome.

(*I also tried a round of Proving Grounds multiplayer - fun, but I felt more like a hindrance than an asset to my team.)

I agree with DaverJ. Once I hit level 11 or so the game seriously changed for me. It really is addictive and the time flys by when I am immersed in a mission. Few gripes with the menu lag and the ability to tell the difference between what is dropped for loot. Seems like in 1 and 2 it was easier...not sure why. I only play this game (and the last 2) solo so the experience is different from most im sure. BL3 is a game you have to put a few hours in before experiencing what it has to offer....much like the new tool album :)

I played a little bit into Borderlands....and I fired up Borderlands 2 once or twice...and just couldn't get into those games. I liked the humor, I felt the writing was well done....but something about the game didn't jive with me.

However with the release of Borderlands 3, and having changed up a bit of what I consider fun and fresh in gaming as I age.....I discovered I owned Borderlands 2 on PC...and a ton of DLC....and there was a 4k patch, so I said "What the hell, why not give it a third chance". It was about 2am when I began to think up excuses to bag out of work. :p

Several hours later I was like "I think I get this now"........we'll see if it sticks........I also started up Division 2 for real on Xbox (to keep it relevant to the forum!) so I think I'm developing a thing for action RPG's in my old age...

DaverJ, are you on a One X now? If so are you going with the Perf or the Pretty mode??

Definitely Performance, at least so far. Which still has many hitches, noticeable framerate drops well below 60fps, and good old 1080p jaggies (4K display + Xbox One X). Resolution Mode looks very similar, except much less jaggies, and agonizing 30fps. HDR on both is pretty nice.

Digital Foundry recommends getting used to the Resolution Mode on the X to get consistent framerate, but I dunno... I really want 60fps on fast-paced game like this (ala Gears 5). It would take some serious adjustment to get used to 30. I might tough it out for a while tonight to see if the eyes can adjust.

Hopefully next console hardware gen this Resolution vs. Performance thing will be put to rest? Wishful thinking..?

It’s definitely fun with coop. Having trouble finding the motivation to play solo. I guess I’ve been spoiled by coop.

Unfortunately, the performance mode is pretty much a joke. I’ve run into areas where the game pretty much drops down into the 30s (or what feels like it). Just wildly and extremely inconsistent. Honestly, Gearbox did very little to this mode outside of changing the resolution to 1080p and it shows. Hopefully this is something that can be patched. For now I’ll have to stick to resolution mode.

I suspect we'll get in the next generation a guaranteed 1440p/60 option....but not 4k/60 across the board like everyone suspects, console hardware makers never shoot for the moon.....they just advertise like they are :) The reality is always less than they tell us it will be, XboxX and PS4Pro being the latest examples like every console before them....

And they will checkerboard up that 1440p to 4k or something, but that's why I'm surprised that games like Forza Horizon 4 have to cull so much of the visual eye candy and display at 1080p to reach 60fps....when by all accounts they should be able to scale or checkerboard up that to a higher perceived resolution, but they don't.....seeming not on Borderlands 3 either. Not sure what gives there,
don't know enough about the whole upscaling thing to understand why its a performance hit.

Either way, I've ruined myself....I started playing on PC again on the 1080 Ti for some titles...like Forza 4 at 60 with all its pretty-modes cranked....and that means I find it hard to flip=flop between 30 and 60fps modes in the same game. Now, I adapt...I don't rant at the skies if I can't hit 60fps on a console but in general I can't play like...Boderlands 2...at 30fps when I can play it at a locked 60, and borderlands is one of those games like Quake where I get it...you want the 60fps. I tried playing Quake on PS4 and realized "this game is just wrong at 30fps.....and its wrong with a joypad", that was the first gam ein a long time that made me feel that way.

Enjoy the B3 fellas, I think you can expect a patch in the future to shore-up those 60fps elements.......

I’m diggin it! I always loved borderlands. The new weapons & mods are a nice change, I especially like the alternate fire modes on some weapons.

I’m also using performance mode on the one X. The slight visible improvement in res isn’t worth the framerate hit on this game IMO. It’s HDR either way.

I’ve been playing this a lot (probably too much) and this is the only game that completely shuts down my One X. Not crashes to the dashboard, but shuts the console down completely. No warning messages pop up after the reboot.

I’ve googled it and it seems to be a common issue. It’s definitely scary to have it happen. This game certainly needed some more time in development.

Last week I had it happen two or three times in one day, with the following message appearing after reboot:

I used a mini vac around the vents on the Xbox One X - I seriously didn’t expect it to make any difference, but Borderlands 3 hasn’t shut down during gameplay since doing that.

I’ll give that a shot. I cleaned the console a month ago (same way you did) and it’s open with plenty of room around it. I’ve yet to see any message/warning about overheating, knock on wood.
