Been doing this for a while now, dunno if anyone else is onto this or not. Not all Borders locations I've been to carry HD DVD titles. Generally Borders isn't the cheapest place to buy these things either however, if you join this Borders rewards program they tend to give a lot of coupons. Example I bought a title with a coupon I had for 30% off for joining the rewards program after buying a $3 book. Then after buying this title I got another 25% off coupon. The coupon is good a week or so after the purchase. Today I receive an email with a 25% off coupon. So I go buy a title and get a 30% off coupon good next week. Then I realize I had the other 25% off coupon from the last title I purchased and buy another title then get another 30% off coupon. Now I've got two 30% off coupons good for next week.

Locally they're charging about $28.99-29.99 for most movies except the combos and a few other strays. This is generally $4-5 more than BB or CC. So they come out to be $20.30-$21.50 or so which is cheaper than mostly anywhere else at a local level. So after coupon they're a couple of bucks cheaper. Selection isn't bad either at least at the location where I've been getting them.

FYE also has an OK deal. They keep having 40% off coupons for used items. Now granted used HD DVDs are not readily available, and FYE wants a lot of money for a new title (about $30+), however if its used its about $22, then using a 40% off coupon its about $13.22 for a movie. Selection is generally limited but may be better where you are.

I do buy a lot of my HD DVD's from Borders using those sweet coupons they give out. The one you get with your receipt is the same % off that the follwing weeks email coupon (which you can print and use as many times as you want) will be for.

You're lucky.

I don't know where you're located but HD titles are stocked in small quantities at just a few stores here in the Bay Area and I don't expect the availability situation to improve. In fact, given Borders' poor performance last quarter, it's not only difficult to find HD titles, but new releases of classic films as well. Both "The Caine Mutiny" & "The Guns of Navarone" were re-released in 2-disc SD formats this week, and none of their stores around here have them. In the past, they would have had several copies of each available on the first day of release.

Just an FYI, Borders has a buy 3-get 1 free sale for DVD's going on right now.

There is also a coupon that takes $10 off when you spend $50 or more that can be combined with the sale, so you can get a pretty solid deal for 4 HD DVD's. If it's not against forum rules (?), i'll post the link to the coupon later.

I've shopped around the local stores that carry this stuff. From what I've observed:

Our one Borders is pretty good about getting new release stuff, even on HD DVD, though they're usually not the fastest they usually have it within the released week. I wouldn't really consider this to be the top area to be selling HD DVD or any related stuff either, however they even had Planet Earth within a few days of release.

The two FYE superstores have lots of titles, lots of new releases (if it comes out they'll have it, sometimes lots of them too... one of them had at least 4 copies of Planet Earth the day it came out), but unless it is on sale their regular price is considerably higher than anyone else (the used prices without the coupon are not bad though). Was always the case with their predecessor, Media Play, too, always the best selection, always the highest prices.

Best Buy has three pretty close locations. Two of them have one rack section for HD DVD & Blu Ray, one has two for each. I will give it that the one location has all the titles stacked sideways and usually only has one or two of any given movie in stock on both formats so the selection is still good. Oddly the one with the big Magnolia HT section has the worst selection.

Circuit City really doesn't have much selection at the two locations I've been to out of the three but the prices aren't bad. I've not bought any movies from them yet.

All local Targets carry at least a few titles. Some of the HD DVD ones are only $19.99.

I bought the bulk majority of my titles when CompUSA went out of business at 30% off or more. The others I've gotten from Borders (rewards program), Sears (clearance of older titles at one location) and FYE (used with coupon or on sale). I don't think I've paid full price for more than one or two movies yet.
