Sitting here Christmas day waiting for the company to get here and decided to go through the HD schedules for HBO/Cinemax, SHO/TMC. Starz has already been covered extensively.

Of the things that haven't been mentioned AFAIK, the things that interest me and have been tagged as HD transfers:

Cinemax:

Ben Hur (1/2 5:15AM)

Rudy (1/7 7:35AM)

HBO:

Million Dollar Baby (1/7 8:30PM)

The War of the Roses (1/11 3:20AM) - This was supposed to be HD months ago, but was shown 4:3

Showtime:

Ghostbusters (1/2 7:30AM)

For me at least, this is clearly a WEAK month.

I think you have hit upon the problem for all the "premium" channels (which is why HBO and Showtime especially have done everything they can to develop compelling "original" series.

When it comes to movies there just isn't an infinite supply. "Ben-Hur" (1959), "Rudy" (1993), etc. Some people will watch the same movies over and over, but studies show the vast majority will not.

And assuming the true videophile runs right down to his/her specialty store to snap up the first Blu-Ray or HD DVD machine, what real incentive is there for the channels to work toward getting high-quality HD versions of movies on the air?

This is just one of the reasons I cancelled HBO after Rome completed it's run. (2 weeks after doing so I got a flyer from Comcast offering me 2 mos free of HBO... :p )

heh i cancelled hbo after the Sopranos completed their run. premium channels are a real hit or miss for me, mostly miss, and imo are a huge waste of money. once hd dvd or blu ray gets into the picture, i think these channels will be in REAL trouble
