Please help. My son-in-law mentioned that he wants some Bose 151 outdoor speakers. He said he wants 4 at $150 each. Knowing Bose as I do, I told him I could find better speakers for half the price. I know nothing about outdoor speakers, so am looking for suggestions. Thanks!

The older Bose 151 is $248 / pair on Amazon. The Bose 151 se version is $278 / pair.

Boston Acoustics Soundware might be a viable alternative. It indicates it is weatherproof:

You can find it on Amazon here: http://www.amazon.com/Boston-Acoust...UTF8&qid=1431242596&sr=8-1&keywords=soundware

The price is $74 each, so multiply by however many your son-in-law wants. It has a 4-1/2” driver & .75” dome tweeter. Now these won’t go that deep (90 Hz), but are a good speaker. You won’t find any specs on Bose, because they refuse to publish them, so I don’t have a clue of the 151’s frequency range. My son is using the Soundware for his rear channel speakers and highly enjoys them.

You might also look at the Yamaha @ $75 / pair: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0001VGFKW/ref=psdc_172563_t2_B000UTNQWA Don't have any idea of the quality, but are probably better than Bose.
