Bose Lifestyle 48

Note: This is not to be a Bose Bashing Thread!!!

My Yamaha Receiver is on its last straw and I believe this is because it is hidden in a cabinet with little ventilation. The obvious problem is the AMPS create a lot of heat which make it hot (not really hot though, my thermometer in the cabinet say 127-135 degrees Fahrenheit usually). The solution is to get the Amps out of the cabinet. I could put the receiver outside of the cabinet but that would be "ugly" according to you know who..... I have found that the Bose Lifestyle systems have the AMPS in the Acoustimass Module. I also like the ability to store CDs in the unit and network with other products throughout the house. If anybody owns or has experienced a lifestyle system, let je know who you feel. Please, don't say Bose is trash etc., I know that, just if you own a system and have used one ect, let me know all aspects. UMusic, DVD, ADAPTiQ or anything.

Thanks!

I have owned both the Bose LifeStyle 18 Series ll and the LifeStyle 28 Series ll and have been very happy with both of them.

While all systems have their pros and cons and most on this forum hate Bose I have always felt that the pros of the LifeStyle outweigh the cons.

Plus when ya want to get rid of it they have GREAT resale value on Ebay, I have sold a few of my Bose systems (2 Bose 321's and 2 LifeStyle systems) on Ebay and got almost what I paid for them brand new.

Thats one of the pros of any Bose system.

I dont own (thankfully) but I have experienced it. It is trash. What else did you want me to say? I have demoed it with 300 dollars speakers and bose was completely demolished by them.

The panasonic XR55 apparently runs cool, you might want to check that out. It would be MUCH cheaper than bose, and sound better (since you apparently already have speakers).
Thanks for the ideas. Any more info on networking the lifestyle systems using bose link or networking other receiver etc.

I've owned my Bose Lifestyle 38 for about a year. I am very well pleased with the system. I see a lot of trash talk by others. The surround sound on my dvd's is amazing. Better than most systems I have heard. I have cranked up some of my old 70's music and am amazed how clear it sounds even when cranking it up all the way.

I am not in to "thump thump" music where I need my chest caved in by the bass. I want good reproduced sounds and the ability to hear the various instruments. You can't beat Bose for this type sound. I have literally looked over my shoulder when some sounds come through during a movie, thinking it was one of my animals or my son crying.

Guests come over and have nothing but great things to say about the system.

Also, you cannot beat their customer service. I started out purchasing a LF28 and had a problem with the receiver locking up after 3 months. I took it back to the Bose store and they gave me a LF38 in exchange as they did not have any 28's in stock. Not bad getting a $1,000 upgrade for free. I have since been back and bought some 151's for my boat. My business partner and I installed them one day and could not get over how much better they sounded than the Polk Audio's I had on the front of the boat.

I do wish they had more modern connectors on the back. The DVD player plays PAL and NTSC dvd's and I have used their adapter cable in order to get progressive scan. Ihave since added an upconverting dvd player to go along with my new plasma.

Overall, I could not be happier with any other system. The cube speakers don't take up room like floor speakers yet give you big sound.

Go to www.dogpile.com and enter a search on "Bose Lifestyle Review". Pay close attention to the reviews by professional musicians. Musicians have a real appreciation for the Lifestyle system. Good luck on your choice.

ADAPTiQ is a thing of beauty. I like it more than Yamaha's YPAO. And that's coming from someone whose next receiver will be a Yamaha (moving from Onkyo, which I also like). Bose systems are easy to set up and easy to get decent sound out of the thing. For the same amount of money, you ca buy a far better system, but you can't get an easier one.

Bose may not be for everyone. In fact, you may not be the ideal candidate, because I think you might have a significant amount of audio experience. Those people are usually looking for the best sound for the money. But if the features and price work for you, go for it.

I have a lifestyle 28 system I bought open box from my local best buy. The deal was a steal, but the problem is that the AdaptiQ disc was not in the box and I have not been able to come up with it...if anyone has this disc could you please do a rip and post it for me?
I have a lifestyle 38 in my family room, had it for about a year now. I Must say the sound it produces is very good, it beats any HTIB on the market hands down. I know that alot of ppl say bose is not good for the money, those ppl who bash bose are audiophiles and know alot about hometheatre systems. bose products are marketed to ppl who arent hardcore audiophiles, and to those who arent audiophiles bose is the best thing they ever heard. I like to watch alot of movies, sort of an audiophile and I admit there are some cons with bose, but i feel that pros outweigh cons. The bose is not the only system I own, I have bose in my family room for reg TV viewing. For my hometheatre/gaming I have Harmon Kardon avr745 7.2 setup with polkaudio RM20 and 2 Velodyne DLS-3750R subs.

Bose has good customer service. When I moved I needed new speaker wire cuz I had it in wall, and also lost the adapt iq kit. So i called bose to see how much I can get another one for, turns out that bose sent me new wiring for the whole system and adapt iq for free.

I own a Bose LS 48 system and believe it has a few fatal flaws for any buyer:

1. No multi channel analog inputs for lossless audio from HD DVD or BD players.

2. Poor DVD player that does not upconvert

3. No hdmi output

4. Cannot connect sub woofer. The acoustimass module fails all sub woofer tests.

I am not an audiophile and would definately stay away from the LS 48 next time. For me the price wasn't a big deal and the form factor could be had with many other products.

Bose customer service is good.

My 2 cents.....

Have to say I agree 100% with the last person. I purchased late last year a LS48 had nothing but trouble with the machine. DVD continued to fail and not play some disks. The hard drive broke down a number of times even though it was returned to Bose.

I have to say some of the staff in the Bose office in UK were very helpful and eventually machine was returned and I got a complete refund. A few things Bose do not tell you that the machine can only be loaded with about 10 disks a day and it is so limited the disk knowledge on the machine. Faults also is it cannot connect to internet to read disk and about 1/3 of my disks were not read by the lifestyle. the speaker stands I purchased were also a problem gettting that plastic length to fit into the speaker stand was a real pain. I am glad to have got rid of the machine. Purchased some seperates a Sony amp, Escient 500 GB server, Monitor speakers and Marantz DVD player. Excellent products and cheaper. Really happy with new set up. Would advise anyone to avoid Bose until they upgrade to internet connection and HDMI connections and of course reduce their outragous pricing..

I dont own a bose system (as I dont really feel like selling organs to pay for my HT setup
) but I have set ones up for friends... well corrected their grossly misconfigured setup
, and I have a few comments about the bose systems (NO comments about audio quality, as that has been done many times)

they are very well designed (from a consumer POV) and have some interesting features, such as the thing to tell whether your TV is on (interesting concept, but I couldnt get it to work on his DLP).

I didnt like the way they handled component inputs, but I thought it was interesting, as Svideo cable can carry 2 signals, and composite can carry 1, they combine them (with an adapter) to make a component connection.

on the system itself, there is only one component capable input, and one output, they actually pass the signal through when the system is off (I really liked that, since it simplified the setup and didnt make you use the whole HT system when you just want to watch the news in the morning) but they also had an expander which would allow you to hook up more component inputs.

I do set up the Bose Lifestyle system for my sister and actually used it for one month. It looks nice and well integrated and that it is all about.

It is good for small (enclosed) room but the price does not reflect the quality of the system. The DVD player can play only limited number of format.

BOSE not releasing their specs says it all.. They are too embarrassed to do so.. Cause their marketing is geared towards people who are not audio savvy so they are easily influenced. (Sorry, I never seen a audiophile gush over anything BOSE related.) I wouldn't say Bose sucks pre say, but price vs performance is down right awful..

But yes, their CS is out standing..
i have a bose lifestyle 48, and before everyone tells me im crazy for dropin 4g's on it calm down, i got it on a steal for $1150 (by buddy is going into the air force and had no where to put it), and i am in love with it and here is why . . . 1. it is obvious that there are many better systems out there but the fact of the matter is, this has all of the performance that i need, and many other consumers out there. the sound is crystal clear, and i get tons of bass out of my sub even though people claim that the bass sucks. ive listened to everything from movies, to rap music, to jazz on this system and it is unbelieveable. 2. the fact that you can almost completely conceal each speaker in the palm of your hand i a huge plus. i did not want to do in wall speakers, but i still wanted my speakers to be very dicreate and uninvasive on my living room. most people dont even realize that they are there until i point them out, sumething you definatly cant say about most of the speakers out there 3. instead of haveing fugly recievers and disk changers that i would feel compeled to hide, i proudly display my bose media center front and center in my living room, again a huge plus for me. is it so bad to ask for a reciever that performs well and that looks good in my living room?!? 4. the level of customer service that you recieve from bose is so far beyond any other company i have delt with in regars to A/V equipment that it is almost worth the extra money just for the customer service and knoladgability of the technical support . . . i cant count the number of times i have called yamaha and various other A/V compannies and had to deal with some poorly trained novice whom i probably know more about my system they do. 5. bose has a name that comands respect. say what you will about me, but the samee way many of you have spent the extra cash to get a sony, pioneer, or samsung, im willing to spend a little extra money to have that bose name on my system, not because im a brand whore, but because when you get a bose product, you know your not going to be unsatisfied, and if you are there will be a customer service rep, or even a local bose store that is there and willing to help fix whatever problem you may have. im not saying that bose is the best, all i am saying is that i think that bose is the best for me, and can also be the best for a number of other people. and thats my 2 cents!!

At the West Edmonton MallI I sat through in store demonstration in a back room with the new model and was blown away by the quality of the sound coming out of the tiny jewel speakers and woofer. My wife was sold even at he price point of 4100 (10% off until July). The adaptiq technology was very cool. The media center was stylish and DOES have hdmi pass-through. I don't really need the 350 hours of storage and was told by agent that a receiver based system was available for 1000 less and has the same technology. I was leaning toward getting Samsung AS720 but am thinking about Bose newer systems. If you have a local Bose store check out the 10 minute video and presentation and post your thoughts.

$4,000? They cannot be for real. We sell the $1999 Lifestyle System and I feel bad for each and every customer who buys one. What a racket they have going.

Edit: I suppose they justify the cost because this model contains the top secret "VS-2 video enhancer" and the "Proprietary Videostage® 5 decoding circuitry."
