ok...well it's nice that the bruins will be on fm..I'm just not sure how this will change the hd stuff.

if wbcn's hd 2 and hd3 simply move to 98.5 ok fine

if 98.5's hd 2 moves to 104.1 ok fine

but if it doesn't it might be a loss.

they are keeping toucher and rich though.

CBS plans to keep WBCN going as a subchannel at 98.5 HD2. I'm going to guess that the 80s sub that was there will make the trip to 104.1.

CBS likes to state things like this to appease fans. They then drop it a few months later. They really have no business owning radio stations. Can you say "KFRC?"
FWIW, there's a whole different set of people at the top now.

well they are actually using this as a reason to switch to hd...

Some of this I can see...but will miss that indie wbcn hd3...it looks like it's being dropped.

So technically it's not being dropped it's just moving to hd
Here's a Boston Globe article asking if radio is a lost cause on young people?

Ironic coming from a newspaper.

Connections to make with people are important. To note they aren't dropping toucher and rich...they are a pretty good show on the air and they are somewhat known.

It's really hard to appease customers and this goes for tv to a point but I'd say radio is more free than tv.

I've heard some argue that wbcn helped launch U2...yeah...when U2 was actually good. Times have changed...what I like with college radio, radio you and wbcn hd 3 is some of the indie music. You hear what is getting played at clubs and it gives more of a connection.
Bigger shake-up down in NYC. Legendary "station of the NY Times" WQXR is being sold to WNYC. Current WQXR FM frequency 96.3 is being sold to Univision which will being broadcasting Spanish programming. Old Univision NJ frequency of 105.9 is being sold to WNYC which will broadcast their newly acquired "WQXR" on same. How's that grab you?!
That kinda reminds me of another thing...I listen to some stuff (podcast) on wbai. They always mension how being where they are on the spectrum they could sell the station probably at any time..

How much does a radio station cost in just the transmitter in a major market? I think they implied it's a half million a month...does that sound right? I think NYC is the largest market..

How many newspapers aren't?
USA today and wsj seem to hold up well.

Anyways... I emailed wbcn and their hd3 indie station (including the stream) ends

But I guess bruins in hd will be nice

It appears WBZ is no longer HD on it's main station- 1030AM or on its sister station WODS-FM3.

As of 8:37 PM EDT WBZ-AM is transmitting HD on 1030 kHz. They do appear to turn the digital carrier level down later in the evening and I typically lose lock, but other than that, I haven't noticed any loss of IBOC on AM.
didn't they have to cut the power at the Prudential center? That's where a fair number of stations are broadcast from I had a feeling this would happen.

It might be a bit given the humidity. There's portible ac's that are being loaded.
I don't know where WODS transmits from. Most of the FM stations transmit from the FM128 tower out in Newton. The WBZ-AM transmitter is in Hull and the studios are on Soldiers Field Rd in Allston, so neither would affected by anything going-on at the Prudential Center. IBOC is still on the air on the AM carrier.
I mainly listen to WBZ-AM on it's sister station, WODS-FM3 (103.3). It seems they stopped carrying it (subcarrier 1&2 are still there).

I probably can't pick up WBZ-AM in HD because I think I'm getting too much interference from my airconditioner.
WBZ stopped advertising that they were on WODS-3 about the same time that WBCN was moved off of 104.1 and onto the WODS frequency as a secondary channel, so they probably ran out of bandwidth and took WBZ off.

Oh well, it's too bad they must have lowered the power of their HD transmission or something on their AM station as I can no longer pick it up (my main listening hours are late at night, after 12AM). I usually could with a bit of adjustment, as they are the strongest signal in town, but even for me in Natick it's a no go.
