Here's the diagram on making a Tumult Cabinet out of double walled 3/4 MDF (1.5inch thickness total). It took 2 4x8 sheets with plenty of leftover for another project. After figuring the plate amp (Parts Express PE 1000) and driver will be taking ~0.5cf... that leaves 3cf for the driver to play with.

I didn't go with any internal bracing... just 1.25 bottles of wood glue and a bunch o brad nails. The thing is a fuggen tank!!! Two people who are in shape and workout can get tired moving this puppy around.

Anyway, here tis... this thing is a friggen monster. I've had it finished for bout 3 months now. Highly recommend it and would do it all over again if I had to. Blows the Sunfire out of the water. Sub is $500, amp $400... wood and misc supplies and a couple dinners for my helper, it totaled out to ~$1000. Sure wish I knew about HT DIY Sub Online retailers before I bought my Sunfire, i coulda saved a few hundred dollars.

Oh, btw, the finish is actually truck bedliner in a spray can you can get @ Walmart for something like $6 a can. Needless to say I'm very impressed for a DIY approach. Finger prints went away too btw, paint was still drying.

Here's an idea. Over in Home Theater Builder section and in Power Buys, there's a sale on for a new product - Green Glue. It absorbs sound. In HT construction they use it between sheets of drywall and between drywall and studs as a sound isolator.

If you used it between the layers of MDF, I bet it would totally deaden any box resonance.

Hmm?

I've got Radio Shack's analog SLM and the Avia disk.

How is a SPL gonna determine frequency range though?

Link me to a standard test and I'll run it when I get home tonight.

I wouldn't know... I just used a foam brush and regular old yellow wood glue in-between the sheets of MDF. My kitchen cabinets resonate before my sub box does :D
