I know this is a basic computer question, but my BR drive is not seeing a disc when I put one in. I checked My Computer, and it says the drive is functional, but when I try to rip or even play a movie it says "insert disc"

Is the drive dead?

What are you using to play or rip the disc? There are no free programs capable of playing BD movies, and the only free program for ripping them is MakeMKV.

Although off topic, incorrect information needs to be challenged.
DVDFab Passkey Lite is a free program that will remove the encryption

and MPC-HC will play the movie after it is decrypted.

Thanks for the correction, although I would encourage people not to support software historically found in ffmpeg's hall of shame (unless DVDFab has fixed its infringement). Ripping with MakeMKV and playing with MPC-HC lets you bypass DVDFab products while still being free.
