I just purchased a Samsung BD-C6900 and was disappointed that I could not fast forward 1.5x with audio during playback. I am planning on returning it, but was wondering if anyone can give me a list of blu ray players that have this option and has DLNA other than the PS3?

I saw that you could do the 1.5x forward w/ audio on Panasonic blu ray players but they have no DLNA compatability.

Can anyone confirm if the LG BD570/590 will let me do this? I couldn't find a direct answer on any of the other posts. Thanks!

I am tearing my hair out trying to find solid info on this feature, which is critical to WAF on a new player. We watch TV shows like Star Trek or X-Files on DVD at 1.5x speed with subtitles. It's a great way to compress a 45 minute show into ~30 minutes.

1. I know the PS3 does it. I do not want to use my PS3 as my primary BD/DVD player, because I had a 60gb ultra-expensive model give up the YLOD 1 year out of warranty. After paying to replace it, I am simply not willing to make my console (now a PS3 slim model) do double duty.

2. I know that Panasonic models tend to do it. However, the reason I am in the market is my Panny DMP-BD65K is crapping out on me. It is giving me more and more read errors on BD media. The drive makes a grinding noise and then the player tells me to check disc. The firmware is up to date and the discs, naturally, are flawless. So, long story short, I am looking for someone OTHER than Panasonic, because I am convinced their machines have crappy QC. I contacted them and they gave me a useless system reset remote code, as if that would rectify a physical problem with the drive.

3. I am hoping to replace this player in the $100-$150 range. Streaming features would be nice, but are not necessarily critical. I do not care about 3D at all, since my TV is 2D and I won't be replacing it any time soon.

So can you help me out? If you have a player that is currently on the market and plays 1.5x with audio, can you just post and say "yes, this model does it?" I am really aggravated at the lack of info on manufacturers' websites with regard to this feature.

I really don't want to reward them with another purchase.

That's what I said when they didn't put Netflix on the BD60 but now I own three more. You may not want to reward Panasonic but with the prices they charge for these now they are little more than throw aways, and you don't want to get the wife PO'd. You can do it for less than $100 if you get the DMP-BD75.

... or buy used. Then the guy you bought it from rewarded them, not you ;-)

But seriously, I don't really blame you. Anyway, it sounds to me like your 65 just needs a good spindle cleaning. That happens to all players, not just panasonic. Just open it up and clean the hub with an alcohol swab and hopefully it'll be good as new for a few more years.

I may just try that. Thanks for the tip.

I've had every generation of Panasonic player since the 10. All still work great.

mdavej,

Thanks so much for the advice. I cracked it open, cleaned a bit of crud off the spindle, and now my previous problem BDs (Tron Legacy, for instance) load without incident and with much less noise.

It's surprising that the thing is so sensitive to such a little bit of grime.

Spindle cleaning is a fact of life for owners of Panasonic DVDRs. I clean mine at least yearly to keep it quiet and avoid bad burns.

I haven't had to clean my Panny BDs yet, but it sounds like it's just a matter of time

You are right on one thing though, Panasonic support is all but useless for things like this. Even though many people probably end up tossing their Panasonic DVDRs because all it needs is a spindle cleaning, Panasonic never suggest it

Panasonic dropped that feature this year with the X30 series. It could be because of the new chipsets. Sony does not support this feature. You might need tog et one of last year's models X20/500.

Forgot to mention, the 1.5 FF with audio does not work with 3D, at least with any disc I've ever had in my 320.

My 320 just arrived and the Fast Forward with audio is indeed working. Thanks for the info. I have no 3D TV at this point and no plans, so that won't be an issue for me.

OK, so Panasonic still offers this "1.5x FF with audio" feature on all its blu ray models or not?

I recommended to a relative to pickup either the 220 or 320 model (forget which) from Costco a few weeks ago, mostly for this specific feature, as I've used it quite a bit with my older 110 model. But she claims she's played several discs now and there is no audio available when doing the first level of fast forwarding.

Panasonic changed chipsets with this years' 230/330 models. Audio is not supported at 1.5X. The 220/320 did offer it, but it does not work with 3D.

Ah, bummer. It must be the 230 then that she got from Costco. I'll tell her to return it. Thanks for the confirmation.

Sorry, I am late to this game, but I love the PS3's ability to play at 1.5 speed WITH audio and subtitles. Looking for a BR player that can do the same. I got some bad info, I think, and purchased the DMP-BDT270. I can verify that this player does NOT have 1.5 ability with audio and subs.

I can still buy a DMP-BDT220, but can someone here please confirm for certain if it has the 1.5 capability?
