Brightest and best color in 50" LCD flat screen?

538 Views 10 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  hodgjy
I am looking for a 49" or 50" LCD flat panel to put in my sun room. Although the room has bamboo shades there is still a good amount of light coming in. I don't care about a lot of smart features but need the brightest and best color output. My budget would hopefully be under $750. Have looked at and reviewed TCL4, Samsung RU7100 and 8000, Sony 900 but just can't determine which may be best for this room. Any suggestions for best out there given my constraints would be much appreciated.

I don't know much but this I know...
the RU7100 is similar to the 2019 Samsung 50RU710D verified by www.consumereports.org. which I purchased and returned within 6 weeks. The viewing angle is horrible and for me TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.

Sony 900F is your best choice at 49"/50". It is a bright native 120 Hz VA panel with FALD with accurate colors, WCG, and has good anti-reflective performance.

I like the Sony 900F/950G series but they are notorious for dead/stuck pixels as well as dirt behind the screen.

From Rtings Sony 900F review:

"The gray uniformity is good. The 50% gray uniformity looks good, and the issues are mostly situated near the edge and corners, which are darker than the center of the screen. Besides that, dirty screen effect is not problematic since the center of the screen is even and it is not noticeable when watching sports like hockey, a sport where the slightest uniformity issues are usually very easy to see."

From Rtings Sony 950G review:

"The Sony XBR55X950G has decent overall gray uniformity, very similar to the X900F. The corners and the edges of the screen are a little darker than the rest, and this might be noticeable in panning shots of a mostly uniform color, like a soccer field or a hockey arena.
In darker scenes, the uniformity is significantly better and you will have no issues with it. In either case, it is unlikely that you will notice any dark spots (DSE) on the screen."

I haven't heard any review mention an issue with dead/stuck pixels but of course that can happen in any panel.

Thanks but I don't understand Sony pricing on the 49" 900F. For a 2018 model price is still $900 while the 55" model is only a $100 more. Will need to wait and see if any upcoming BF deals!

You can search this forum for any TV and there will be many reports. DSE seems to be more of a problem with TCL, Vizio and Samsung but any LCD will likely have some level of DSE if you insist on looking for it.

Do you have a 49" - 50" TV to recommend?

Can confirm. I had an 800G for 24 hours that I returned for this very problem.
