BRITBOX AUGUST 2021 SCHEDULE

August 3, 2021: McDonald & Dodds Series 2 | BritBox Original, North American Premiere, Exclusive | 3 X 120
BAFTA-winning Jason Watkins (The Crown, Hold the Sunset) and breakout star Tala Gouveia lead in this three-part detective drama as the unlikely pair, DCI McDonald (Gouveia) and DS Dodds (Watkins). Featuring contemporary crime stories told with warmth and humor, the series follows this mismatched duo as they solve crimes in Britain’s historic city of Bath.

DCI McDonald and the unassuming DS Dodds return with a growingly rumbustious, and ultimately highly effective crime solving partnership. As McDonald adjusts to life in picturesque Bath, she and DS Dodds investigate three deaths across the supposedly sleepy Avon Valley.

In each episode, they must investigate a new and compelling crime. Through three captivating cases, in which five friends go up in a hot air balloon and only four come back down alive and a girls’ weekend gone wrong, it becomes clear that there’s far more to the Avon Valley than first meets the eye.

Is there an app for Britbox? Can you log in if you subscribe through Amazon? I’ve noticed there are some gardening shows on Britbox that I want to watch but for some reason aren’t on the Amazon channel. I contacted support about it and they blame Amazon of course and Amazon says the content is up to Britbox. So in typical fashion where two companies are involved nothing gets fixed because nobody can take responsibility. Would be easier to just cut out the middleman.
Is there an app for Britbox?
Yes. There is a standalone app for BritBox.

Can you log in if you subscribe through Amazon?
No. If you subscribe via Amazon Prime Video channels is does not allow you to link your subscription to the standalone app as you can with Paramount+.

What specific gardening shows? I subscribe to BritBox via Prime Video Channels and can check.

I have noticed that Discovery+ has some content available on the standalone app that you lose if you decide to subscribe via Prime Video Channels. I noticed this with some of the BBC America Nature content under the PLANET EARTH tab. When I moved from the standalone app to the Prime Video Channel subscription option some series were not available anymore. Some are still not available and some became available months later.

Be aware that there is a BritBox (US) streaming service and a BritBox (UK) version. They do not carry 100% of an identical catalog. There are some past licensing deals that likely exclude some content from the each service based on geography. You have to carefully read through articles of newly released or 'coming soon' announcements for BritBox as the articles don't always clearly point out if the content will only be available in a specific region only.

Edible Garden
The Beechgrove Garden
RHS Flower Show Tatton Park
RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival
Gardeners' World
Instant Gardener
The Great Chelsea Garden Challenge

Plus many countryside/travel shows.

Close catalog availability between the standalone BritBox app and BritBox Prime Video Channel access.

The only one you listed above that is unavailable via BritBox Prime Video Channel is RHS FLOWER SHOW TATTON PARK (2019).

One I did see as a suggested item while searching that you did not list was RHS CHATSWORTH FLOWER SHOW (2019). That is available via BritBox Prime Video Channel. But, I suspect some of these annual shows might have more restrictions about where they can stream at any given point in time.

Thanks for listing out what you found in the standalone BritBox app. (y)

Life in a Cottage Garden is not available on the Prime channel (I have the channel) but appears to be on Britbox US, looks like some of the others finally caught up to prime.

Check again using the SEARCH function. I don't think I could discover it by trying to browse through the BribBox Prime Video Channel subscription directly in the PRIME VIDEO app or using the FIRE TV UI. But a SEARCH brings it up. As much as I like the integration of subscriptions in Prime Video Channel, one of the minuses is that it is harder to discover newly added content by browsing. Content either gets buried or is not listed in any of the rows. But, if you know it is available and SEARCH for it you will find it quickly.

Ugh sometimes Amazon drives me nuts. So searching on Amazon.com doesn’t find it, browsing the channel doesn’t find it, searching the prime app on the Fire stick or LG tv doesn’t find it, but I searched on the prime video app on iPhone and there I found it. Wth?

LOL. I hear ya....

I searched on Amazon website from Chrome browser, Prime Video app on TCL Roku TV and a FTV4K device and also the Fire TV UI on a FTV4K device and found it. But, browsing the BritBox app via Prime Video Channel showed nothing. Go figure.

It is one of the reasons I started this discussion thread and try to contribute to the one that includes ACORN TV. It forces/reminds me to review the 'coming next month' articles, because I know PRIME VIDEO and/or the FIRE TV UI won't always be that helpful in showing new content for some of my Prime Video Channel subscriptions.

BritBox Customers Stunned When Billed 100 Times Their Monthly Fee (EXCLUSIVE)

That headline made me quickly check my latest billing. :D

Luckily I was not one of the fraction of 1%. Probably helped that I get billed through Prime Video Channel.

Luther | BritBox Trailer

July 1, 2021: Luther S1-4 | New to BritBox | 16 X 50

A gripping, psychological thriller, the series follows maverick detective John Luther (Idris Elba, The Wire, Thor) who works for the Serious Crime Unit. For Luther, his dedication to his profession goes beyond a typical job, and he serves his own idea of moral order.

An added twist is that his confidant is also his archenemy, Alice (Ruth Wilson, Jane Eyre, Saving Mr. Banks), a beautiful multiple-murderess who evades his grasp early on, and with whom he becomes locked in a lethal battle of wits.

Throughout the series, Luther faces a succession of psychological duels between hunter and hunted, predator and prey. We see his capacity for violence as well as kindness, his sudden vulnerability and dizzying visionary mind. Will his personal demons prove to be as dangerous as any of the criminals he pursues?
