Broken speaker solder pad

1839 Views 12 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  dtsdig
An unfortunate series of events happened today. As I was moving a sub, I tried over my pet and ripped off a speaker wire solder Pad. A multimeter shows the coil's braided wire is still attached because I'm getting 3.7ohms when it is tested. Is there a way to fix this?

Super glue should hold the pieces together if you can hold it together in the right position while the glue sets up. Maybe use some needle nosed pliers?
Superglue or epoxy. Then solder the braided wire back on.

Oh so it can be soldered? Fantastic. That makes life easy. Thank you very much.
Solder the speaker wire to the braided wire that goes to the VC and then zip tie the speaker wire to that post it broke off from. Get the braided VC wire loose and sitting up so it doesn't slap on the cone or the spider

Good call. I'll be fixing the speaker tonight after work. Thanks for the advice everyone.
That is out of stock at the moment. I'm going to try the super glue and baking soda trick first and foremost. I have never had that kind of repair break. but it does break then I'll replace the entire tab.
If you wind up super-gluing your finger to something then just twist it at the joint and it will come apart. Cyanoacrylate glue is very strong for tension, but very weak for lateral.

Acetone will help dissolve super glue if you have any problems. There is sometimes acetone in nail polish remover. If you have any acetone it is a good idea to have it handy when working with super glue.
Generally by the time you've glued yourself to something that opportunity for planning ahead has passed. The twist trick can get you unstuck without the usual flesh-tearing.
Haha, I'm glad you guys have faith in my ability to glue myself to something. (y)

I mean, this is the DIY forum. It's all about gluing stuff to stuff, most of the time wood, sometimes fingers! lol
