Just got this today from Amazon France.


Didn't have time to watch it but I did load it and scan a bunch of chapters.


My initial impressions of all the scenes are that this is a mid-Tier 2 at best. Not a lot of pop to speak of, but the image is fairly sharp and colors look nice.


Also didn't hear anything strange in regards to pitch and audio. It's been so long since I saw it at the theater it's hard to remember if it looked razor-sharp then, but I'd say this is a fairly decent representation of the film.

That's dissapointing to hear that the PQ is Tier 2. I thought this would look awesome in HD. More importantly how's the audio?


Why is the UK release 9/30?

I'm so confused by all the different versions of the film. If I understand it correctly, there was the original theatrical version, a different director's cut on the first DVD, an uber-extended cut on the 3-disc Canadian DVD box set, and an in-between-but-not-any-of-the-previous-3 cut in the UK.


So which one is this release?

Yes, this French release has English subtitles because on another forum a member was asking how to turn them off - a French Canadian, so he didn't need the English subs. (If you don't need English subs, you apparently select French as the language and the subs disappear).

That's what Amazon UK is showing, maybe they're just P.O.'d because the previous April 24 release date was yanked just a few days before the schedule release. The UK distributor - Optimum Releasing - is showing "out in four days " on their web site .


But they want full £19.99 MSRP. Hopefully Amazon UK will update their listing when they have them in stock, as this seems the least expensive way to go (£14.99).

Won't have time to look at the disc again until later.


Before you get the menu, you get an option to just pick English or Frecnh, and I think that that determines what audio and subtitles will be used since I had French audio and English subtitles by default.


The case says 142 minutes.

The Canadian DVD is the most god awful dvd released in the NA ever, there's not a scene without heavy Macroblocking in it. The US release was far better in that regard..

Is the HD DVD DD+ or DTS-HD?
