BT.1886 with i1D2 calibration questions

679 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  LarryInRI
I have a Panasonic ST60, i1 Display 2 and use HCFR.

My question is regarding gamma calibration to BT.1886. As I understand it, it takes into account the black response of my display to generate the desired curve. Will I be able to do that with an i1 Display 2, since it only goes down to 0.02 cd/m2 and ST60 provides deeper blacks than that. How would that influence results and procedures I should take?

Also, I will be getting an i1 Pro. What would be the best way to do my calibrations? Make a profile matrix for i1D2 with the i1 Pro and use the Display 2 for the calibration in HCFR, or use only the i1 Pro (but what about its poor black response then)?

Thank you!

The i1D2 cannot measure the ST60's mll as it is below the i1D2's measuring capability. I would manually enter your black level if you're going to use bt.1886. 0.0016fL or 0.0055cd/m^2 is about what the ST60 generally measures.

I would profile your i1D2 to your i1Pro and use your i1D2.

That would mean manually changing the Y value for 0% gray in the table right after it takes the measurement from the meter and continue as usual afterwards or are there additional steps?

Do you know if there is a guide on how to profile the meter in HCFR? I can't seem to find relevant results.
Yes, click on 'Editable data' and change the 0% Y to 0.0055.

I haven't profiled my meter in a while so I dunno if things have changed in newer versions of HCFR, but Larry did a nice (albeit old) guide here: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1420779/noob-question-profiling-i1-display-pro-against-and-i1-pro#post_22230797

Any further questions regarding profiling using HCFR would probably be better asked in the HCFR thread .

Thank you very much, that was most helpful!
I measure 0.008 Cd/m2 at best from my european ST60 with colormunki display...does that mean the munki can't measure lower or my ST60 is indeed worse that other's (reviews also report the MLL of about 0.005....)

In order to edit the 0% value, you have to uncheck the XYZ Adjustment (the profile matrix) box in HCFR. When rechecking the box, the value you entered will change. That means a bit of iteration may be required.

I agree with rahzel. This discussion is more appropriate over in the other thread.
