I have an old sherwood receiver, model rv-5030r. I am trying to put together a system for my party room at college. I am looking for some speakers that will be able to get loud and still sound good in a 12x18 room. I am considering the following speakers: BIC America rtr-1530, BIC America DV62si, Boston Acoustics CS26, Sony SS-B1000. If someone could help me choose between these I would really appreciate. $200 for a pair of speakers is the max budget. I am also considering the Polk Audio Monitor 40s.

$200 will get you a pair of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882290207 Much better as a 2.0 system than the monitor 40's. The 40's are great speakers but if you are looking for as much sound as possible, get the towers. I would also consider looking at some used "old school" towers from the likes of MTX, Sherwood, Kenwood, etc. Those had 10, 12, or 15 inch woofers and can probably be had for a song on Craigslist or ebay.
