Hi there! I'm new to the forum. As you can see from my pictures, I am refinishing the basement. With it, I am setting up a new system. I chose the Denon 2112CI receiver, and I would like to set up a 5.1 system. I was thinking of future proofing my setup and buying only front speakers and sub for now, since I am on a ~$700-800 budget. I don't want to buy a speaker set that I won't care about in the future. I also have a few old ( 1970-1990 ), decent speaker sets laying around the house. They are kind of large and unsightly for a final product, though. Can anyone help guide me on a good front set to get me started? I would appreciate it greatly!

Floorstanding speakers are going to be tough. You are going to be cramming them into the space next to the door and TV. Couple questions:

- what is the length and height the wall the TV is on?

- did you already buy a TV, and if so, what are the dimensions?

- how far away do you expect to be sitting from the TV?

-The height of the wall is ~6'6" and the length is 9'6".

-I have not purchased a TV yet, but I am expecting a 60" "hand-me-down" in my possession shortly.

-I'm thinking I'll be sitting about 8-10 feet from the screen.


If the speakers don't fit in that location or if the TV looks awkward there, I'm considering rotating the setup 90 degrees counter-clockwise to the proposed TV position.

What is the door used for to the right of the TV?


Can you take a picture and post in the forum the wall that you may use as the altenate?

-The door is basement storage, and it isn't going to be used very often.

-It will be in front of the cubby on the left. I would just put it on an entertainment center most likely. There might not be enough room to put it on a wall even if I made that whole space a wall. Would you still like a picture?

So an update: the room is about 9x4meters length/width. This room is connected to another room that you can see to the side of the TV that is open. I think that might affect the acoustics more than a little bit. Also, the room is very long which will also affect the sound.


I was wondering, does anybody know if this setup has any glaring issues?

Denon 2112CI Receiver

2x JBL L890

1x JBL LC2

1x Klipsch RW-12d


I am planning on mounting the center under the TV, putting the L890s to either side of the TV and putting the subwoofer in the cubby hole in the middle of the room. In the future, I might be adding two surround speakers, but the placement seems difficult for that and I'm not sure how to proceed.

Also, I decided that the TV will be going on the wall in the opening post picture not in front of the cubby.
