Hi. I'm in the process of building a PC with my 11 year old son. Its going to be used for gaming, mostly shooters. For reference, our exposure to gaming currently is an Xbox One X hooked up to a 65 inch 4K OLED from LG. A lot of Rainbow Six Siege and Fortnight. Will also be using this PC as a basic media server.
It's an Intel Core 5i 9600 with a Nvidia RTX 2060, so I know it's most likely not gonna be pushing 4K for gaming at any decent frame-rate, from what I'm reading and seeing on youtube. So, this is where I'm currently hung up. What monitor to get.....
Looking into 4K vs higher refresh rate and it's clear getting both in one monitor seems to be an expensive option. What is adding to the decision is that I want to use this Monitor as a bedroom TV as well and will most likely have an appleTV or FireTV pushing 4K content hooked up to it as well as the gaming PC. So this makes me lean towards 4K, but if I'm pushing 1080p from the gaming PC, but viewing on an 4K TV, does that have a negative impact on the picture or would a 1080p monitor have a better picture when displaying native 1080p from the gaming PC? The refresh rate would be twice as good on the 1080p monitor. I guess that's an upscaling question. I don't really know the differences between an HDTV and a computer monitor these days.
Opinions in articles and Youtube videos i have watched are all over the place. I was hoping to stay under $500, but if there was a monitor that would be ideal and satisfy all my needs I would possibly be willing to go up to $750 if it was a perfect.
I do like the 32 inch monitors on the 4K's, but I guess I would go down to 28 if needed.
