Has anyone built a standard sub with a plate amp into a wall or other enclosure?

What sort of minimum conditions to cool the plate amp need to be taken?

It depends on the particular amplifier. If you use such an amplifier, read the instructions carefully and make sure you do not violate any of the specified conditions. Before you buy it, you should download the instructions and read them carefully.

I personally would use a separate power amp instead, so that in the event of failure, it would be easy to replace. Professional power amps can often be had for less than those designed for audio enthusiasts.

Normally, one uses the crossover in the receiver for the subwoofer anyway, so usually there is no need for one in the amplifier itself.

I like the separate power amp for this type of use. Much easier to setup, make adjustments and so on. I would also get a class D amp which does not require a lot of cooling and ventilation like the A/B amps.

I agree in general...

...but I really like Brian Ding's (Rythmik) direct servo subs

...and unfortunately, he does not have a non-plate version of his servo amps

Putting a sub with a plate amp in the wall can have a lot of problem. If you don't mind a small hole in the wall, the amp can be in another room. They make wall coverings for speaker wire. I agree that the Rythmik sub is a nice one. A lot of other subs also sound very good and would work well for you.
