For all those who signed up in the past for this, I know it's been a long hard road to get to this point, but I think we're close now.

Alan Gouger has graciously allowed us to deal directly with his FP lamp supplier bulbdirect.com...and thus lower our costs...and his headaches.

I called them and spoke with Connie ([email protected] OK'd my posting this) and she said that they would try to do this. In fact we even talked about having a yearly event for mass lamp buys for folks at this forum! It was OK with them...just more business for them.

Now for the bad part. We need everyone who is still interested to once again(I know...) post here with their:

1. projector model

2. lamp part number - if known

3. quantity desired

Also, we hope to have either Connie or Marty(their tehnical person) of bulbdirect post here to anwser questions etc on an ongoing basis perhaps...depending upon the level of forum interest...and of course the busniess benfit to bulbdirect (I.E to make it worth their effort).

A for instance: we talked a litle bit about the possbility/feasibility of using "non stock" lamps in certain projectors. They said they knew of some tah tcould be done like this, at least for some LCD projectors. But that for DLP's thay did not yet know compatible lamps becaseu there are so many of htem and they are changing all the time...but maybe at some point a list of compatible DLP/etc lamps could be established.

So all who are intested in a gourp buy post here. For questions send to [email protected] or [email protected]

I will also ask Connie/Marty about posting/replying regularly here at the AVS forum. Hopefully this can be awin-win situation for everyone involved.

I'm in for a Davis DL-450 and clones replacement lamp:

1) Projector: Kodak DP-850 (Davis DL-450 clone)

2) Lamp part nbr(s), here's how they're listed by the manufacturer and another reseller (don't know if this is helpful, others may post a definitive part # later in this thread):

Kodak: CAT 890 - 0995 Lamp for KODAK 850/DP1050 Ultra

Digital Projectors

Chatani: 2940420 120W UHP Lamp Kit

3) 1 minimum; 2 if priced low enough

Thanks Veritas for helping to set this up and sticking with it, and thanks to bulbdirect.com and Alan for facilitating!

I may be in for 1 or 2 for a DAVIS DLS8. However, I have no idea what the bulbs cost with or without a power buy. Does anyone have a ball park? What is it 200, 600, 900? I don't know? Anyone?

1. Projector - NEC LT100

2. Lamp LT81/100LAMP (280 Watt Metal Halide)

3. Quantity - 1

I believe the LT100 and the Plus UP1100 are the same chassis. The Plus bulb costs about $100 less than the NEC bulb. Could you ask her if she knows whether we can use the Plus buls in the NEC? If so, and if the price is indeed cheaper, I would want 1 Plus UP1100 lamp.

Thanks!

Joe

Hi Marty - I'll try to ask you a question. It's much more interesting that just a list of bulbs, right? http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

I thought I remember reading that Davis had a new, longer lasting bulb (4000 hours vs. 2000 hours). I believe this was for either the 450 or the DLX650. Do you know if this is true? Is this your area of expertise? Also, can either the 450 or the 650 (apparently they take the exact same bulb) take a higher output bulb, like the one for the Davis DLS8?

Thanks very much for participating on this forum!

I am also interested in an LT100 bulb but would take a UP1100 bulb if it was equivalent and cheaper.

Thanks

From conversations with a NL Davis repair tech...

Yes the Davis DL450 and all its clones (Viewsonic etc) can take the longer life bulbs.. This is a function of the bulb and he said there where 2000 4000 and 6000 hour bulbs... The 6000 hour bulbs where going to be approx twice the cost of the 4000 hour bulbs so this makes this not a economical decision...

He also said that putting a DLS8 bulb in a DL450 was possible but likely to end up in a lump of molten plastic http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/eek.gif .. He told me that the internals of the DLS8 are designed differently and it was highly likely to end in disaster but had never heard of anyone melting a DL450 because of this... He didn't seem to be adverse to mods or hacking (I told him about color wheel mods and he liked the idea) so I dont distrust his opinion but I would love to learn that I could put a bulb in my PLJ830 and get DLS8 brightness !!!!

He told me that Davis had just announced a price reduction (in bulbs) and should know the Davis prices on these bulbs soon (less than 2 weeks) once the new prices where in he would email me.. I have no reason to believe he will be cheap or beat any good internet prices that this power buy would throw up much more likely to be RRP type prices..

Last titbit of info was that he said there where two suppliers of bulbs Philips (normal) and another (he may have said Phoenix but I did not pay enough attention) he told me that the Philips had some 'supply' problems which he used in a quality control context and I didn't really enquire but he may have meant the pulsing issue that occurs on some Davis units and is fixed by replacing the bulb ?!?!

Sorry to make a long post in what was supposed to be a concise thread but will just add that I will take one or two of the 4000 or one 6000 hour bulb that fits a Viewsonic PLJ830 if the price is right... Unless anyone will test a DLS8 bulb for a while and use their projector as a test bed !!!

I still can't figure out why a light bulb should cost 450.00

High power stage lamps and studio lamps are only around 30 to 40.

Are there no other sources to the replacement lamps?

How about aftermarket?

Veritas,

It is clear to me that the interest level is solely based on the price we can get from bulb direct.

Why don't you get a price quote for various qtys. of bulbs? Ask them how much the would sell a lot of 10,20 for etc.

My guess they won't be able to beat $300 on the UP-1100 Bulb.

As far as the UP-1100 is concerned, if they can get the raw bulbs that would be great but probably difficult. The actual bulb used is the Ushio UMRD-280PL. But it might be possible to use the UMRD-250 instead.

Good luck,
