I've read that after you cut with Womble, don't change the video settings so that Womble does not have to re-render the file. Since all Replaytv files are MPEG-2 files, and SVCD files are MPEG-2 files, it would seem that choosing SVCD would require no re-render. Chosing SVCD produces a file in Womble rather quickly. However, the time reported by NERO 6 to burn the resulting file (half hour sitcom cut to about 20min) as an SVCD was over two hours, but to burn as a VCD, which is MPEG-1 format, was way under one hour. To burn the Womble-produced MPEG-2 file as a VCD would require a re-render by NERO, wouldn't it? Shouldn't it be faster to burn an SVCD from an MPEG-2 file and slower to burn a VCD from an MPEG-2 file?

All SVCD files are MPEG-2, but not all MPEG-2 are SVCD compliant. What you're seeing is that it takes a lot longer to reencode to SVCD (higher bitrate) than to VCD (lower bitrate).
