Hello. I'm considering buying a floor model of Sony KDL-40Z4100 from BestBuy. The dilemma is I could buy a brand-new KDL-40VL160 from Costco for about $200 more. If I bought 4-yr warranty from BB (and I definitely will, considering it is a used unit), they'll cost almost the same. What do you experts think? And how do I find out how long the floor model has been used? (how do you access the service menu?) Thanks so much!

Well, to me it's a no-brainer especially given the fact that Costco doubles the warranty anyway. I'd rather have a new, fresh out of the box TV than a used one for the same price with a slightly better warranty, especially given the fact that both TVs have similar specs.

Don't know how to find out how long the floor model has been used. However, you can bet it's been a floor model for as long as the Z4100s have been out which is at least a year. Stores don't usually sell their floor models until the new models come out.

For $200, I'd go with the new one, but get a great price wherever, cause this is last years model and I've seen it at 3 digits.

you might want to shop the better (IMO) 40XBR7, it's being given away esp online. It's quite a bit bigger cabinet tho with side speakers, and I know the Z4100s appeal was mostly the very slim bezel.

I'd also compare the new 40w5100, BB has it for $500 off. I think it's probably better than the Z4100 too.

hope it helped.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'm buying the one from Costco. I can't go any bigger than this one because my wife's stupid armour wouldn't accept anything bigger than 38" width.
Do you have any idea on how to check the service menu on these sony units?
