Buy now or wait for price reductions and technology improvements?

I would like to upgrade my bedroom television to a larger tv that is able to be mountd on the wall. Thus, I assume LCD and plasma are my two choices. Also want a built in HDTV tuner so I will not need a separate tuner box. I have not decided on size but around 40" would do it. I do not need capability for surround sound.

My dilemma is that the current plasma and LCD tvs which are HD ready appear to be $2,000 or more. My current bedroom tv works fine so this is not an urgent purchase. Prices seem to have decreased approx. 30% since I purchased my home theater 2 years ago and I am wondering if anyone has a read on where the market is going and whether I should wait for new models that will be less costly and and have better technology that what is currently on the market today.

If there are any suggestions for current tv that fits the bill, suggestions are also appreciated. Thanks in advance.

As true with all technology products, you'll continously "get more for less" over time. Plasma/LCD prices will drop, and their capabilities will improve. Every new model will claim new features (whether we really needed them or not), and improved performance (whether we could really tell the difference or not). If you're looking for a definitive time to buy where you won't feel like you've missed out on a latest feature or the latest price drop, you'll wait forever!!

Both plasma and LCD technologies will improve and will get cheaper (inflation adjusted). The tradeoff for a buyer is to wait for a better deal and miss out on the better visual entertainment experience in the interim. You need to decide for yourself whether the current price/performance ratio is good enough or not. If $2000 for a 42" plasma is still too expensive for you right now, I suspect the same model (or its replacement) will be a couple of hundred $ cheaper (inflation adjusted) in 6-12 months. At least, that's what my crystal ball is telling me... ;)
