I'm currently trying to decide whether to 1) purchase a 50" 720p Panasonic Plasma television set now, or wait a few months and get either 2) a 46" 1080p/120Hz LCD tv or 3) a 52" 1080p/60Hz television set.


The 50" plasma is currently about $200 under my spending limit and I believe that in about 4 or 5 months a 46" 1080p/120Hz LCD and 52" 1080p/60Hz televisions may be under my spending limit.

Some information concerning my needs: distance from seat to tv will typically range from about 9' to around 13'. The room is not what I would consider bright. Medium light during the day and low light (one small 60w lamp) at night. When the blinds are open (which isn't often) the sun will be coming in from the back of the set but we seldom have the blinds all the way up.


I will be mainly using it to watch TV (very seldom do I watch movies...concerts on DVD sometimes) and Elmo videos (got a 15 month old boy). Along with watching those items I will be playing a lot of video games (Wii, PS2, Dreamcast). It will be hooked up to cable tv service.


So, in your opinion, should I 1) go with the 50" Panasonic Plasma 720p now or wait until the price of the 2) 46" LCD 1080p/120Hz set or the 3) 52" LCD 1080p/60Hz set to fall into my price range?


I guess a 4th choice might be wait until the price on the 50" plasma drops below $1000

Well, this poll is no longer needed...just purchased a Panasonic 50" Plasma television (TH-50PX80U: http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-e...00000000005702 ). Just found a deal locally that was a bit too good to pass up.

Do what I'm doing and wait for an inexpensive zero idle luminance/absolute black/infinite contrast ratio flat panel to come out.

i think those will be out by this holiday season for less than $500 in the 46"-52" sizes.
